I just finished mounting a Boyo IR backup camera and used many of your suggestions. The tip about using hand soap to lube the wires before sending them through the rubber boot is a surefire winner. Great video. This relieved a lot of anxiety...lol. Thanks a million!

just a tip, i think everything was great btw, but with the grommet for the trunk and camera wires, a solution to make it waterproof again would be to fuse the rubber back together with heat

You wire the backup camera to the positive wire of the reverse lights. So that way the camera will only be enable when go in reverse

+Cesar Levi Munoz You will need to identify a constant power source and a power source that turns on with the key. You could use a fuse tap, and test with a voltmeter which circuits are constant and which are accessory.

He means to have power when the vehicle's key is in the on or accessories position but it is not in reverse gear. For cars with a cigarette lighter style power plug in the rear I assume you could run the wire from there.

I just purchased a RV class c and it has a built in Pioneer backup, loaded camera with side view , phone radio, b.t. and everything else . My question is the only way to turn this off is with a killer switch that turns everything off in the RV. Why isn't there a on/off button . I don't want my battery to go dead so I always have to use this factory installed killer switch. thank you for any info. AVH-3400BH or AVH-2400BT

How big of a deal is it that the camera is off center? I realize there’s not really another option with the lift gate handle in the way. Doing my Pontiac vibe soon. On my Toyota Matrix I mounted it to the left of the handle (ran the wiring through the reverse light area/hole). It’s a challenge using it to back into a parking spot. Although….I have it aimed at an angle…maybe I need to just point it straight instead.

Hi, I understand to connect the power leads from camera to rear tail light +12V & ground and then running from that +12V another wire alongwith the RCA to the trigger wire behind the head unit. Just wondering for a system where I would like to have the camera ON anytime I want (and ofcourse while on reverse), what more do I need to do?

You would need to run a power lead from the front to the camera. The only connection at the taillight will be the trigger wire running to the front of the vehicle. This power lead will provide accessory power to the camera all the time while the vehicle is running.

Hi, I bought a used Ford Sport Trac with a Pioneer Nav Stereo system with back-up camera. From purchase the back-up did not work. I noticed a black single wire dangling from the back of my truck near the license plate. I believe this wire was for a camera that was removed prior to sale. I took a chance and purchased an inexpensive Amazon backup camera that was able to do mirror and non mirror images. The latter was listed in my Pioneer manual as the one required. My hope was that spicing the truck wire with the camera wire would work. (I cut off the connectors that were on the camera wire. It did not work. In your experience would that size wire hanging from the back of my truck near the license plate be used for anything but a camera. (All lights work so it can't be that) Appreciate any feedback you can give without seeing the truck and wire. The truck wire and camera wire were identical.

I appreciate your video but I don't want to go through all of that or pay someone to do it. One note, the backup camera was turned off on the Pioneer system. This cut wire was not protected from weather as long as I have had the truck. Can't image that was good but not sure if it was a hazard. Thankfully, nothing happened to the radio system over the past 3 years.

You might want to try amazon(Just search "backup cameras") and just find one with lots of good reviews if you want one that's not from china and that has a good return policy. 250 bucks to install it is ridiculous though. Even with a pretty good camera(Maybe 150 bucks for a really high end model that is ridiculously over priced) it will only take 30min-an hour to install maybe even less.
