In Marvelous Designer you can select the Topstich and in property editor under Type change OBJ to Texture and it removes all the triangles super quickly. It automatically generated the normals for export too.

@@3dmegaverseJohn ok. I changed it. But your notes were very on point and I am testing out the workflow right now.

thank you for this! it was very interesting and i learned quite a lot about substance painter, which i definitely need. also, please take your time when making tutorials; there's no rush and i'd rather have a longer video in which you explain things so well and step by step, than a shorter one that may not be as clear. it's much easier to understand everything, i actually sat down and took notes! :] i'll be watching more of your videos and supporting your channel from now on. thank you for the content, and keep it up!

Thank you so for this I spent all day trying to generate normals/height with the stitches as geometry in Substance and it was a no go 🤦‍♂ now I know you can basically create a map from the base color of the stich lol

Great information. I learned something new and useful. :) If you can make sure you move your self camera view over out of the way when explaining and clicking in property panels, would be great for us to see. Very grateful for your sharing of your knowledge.

No problem. AS few people mentioned that, I have made my window smaller to hopefully help.

In MD 11 this behaviour has changed: instead of drawn stitches on the diffuse map, we get a single (albeit high-res) stitch as a separate item, and a clean base map without stitches for the pattern. It is very unfortunate, because I love your workaround of getting a clean separated height map for the stitches. This is good reason to keep a copy of MD 10 on your system! If anyone knows a workaround for this on MD 11+, please let us know.

I may have just found a workaround: save your MD 11 project, then open it in MD 10 just for the map export and your stitches are on the diffuse just like we see in this video. At the time of writing I can open MD 11 projects without an issue in MD 10 (this trick may stop working in future versions though).

Thank you so much for your tutorials. I'm trying to figure out how to change the stitch color only. I haven't succeeded yet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Happy New Year.

You’re welcome 😊The stitch colour is in the topstitch properties, a few lines below the image. Hope that helps :)

@@3dmegaverseJohn Thanks for your reply. I know how to change stitches color only in Marvelous Designer but I didn't understand how to do it in Substance Painter by following your tutorial.

@@bydlaczek1000 ah I see, sorry about that. You can use the stitch map you got out of MD as a bitmap mask. But I have a better way of doing it all now. With baking the normal map in substance, and coloring the stitches. It's scheduled for release tomorrow at 12pm gmt. Hope that helps.

Hello! I saw you have some nice Normal Maps with nice small bevels for your dress. Can you explain how to export map like that? When i am trying to export normal map I am getting just a blue picture without any beveles or if I have some materials assigned I am getting texture normal map for the material but still no bevels like you have.
