1/4 cup warm water, 1 tbsp of dry yeast, 1 cup sugar, 1 cup warm milk, 4 tbsn butter room temp, 4 large eggs, 5.5 cups all purpose flour.

I literally just cut into one of the loaves I made today and oH MY GOD. This is my first time making bread of any kind, it was super easy and sosososo good! Thank you! This is 100% going onto a recipe card for later

I love how you explained this recipe, my mom usually adds lemon rind, but you don't have too. Thank you for sharing this recipe.

This recipe is almost the same as my grandmothers. Very close. Haven't made it in years, but decided tomorrow will be a good day. It was a great treat a kid to have it. Thanks for sharing it.

I also use a similar recipe with a couple additions. To make my bread or I usually make 9 buns, I like to cook white potatoes and add the water and about 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes to the mix. I find the potatoes add moisture and extend the freshness for a few extra days, when I have leftovers, and my family recipe also uses lemon extract, for additional flavor. Thank you for your well demonstrated video.

I had been looking for my deceased mothers old portuguese recipe and this bread recipe surpassed it. Thank you so much. You instructions are the best. Turned out better than moms.

This bread is awesome! It's not as light at Fall River Portuguese sweetbread, but it is delicious! I also increased the sugar to 1 cup per other review. Thank you for posting this!

This bread recipe is simply mind blowing. Love how fluffy and crusty and tasty it turned out. It wasnt too sweet either .Thank u .

This looks lovely. Your recipe is very similar to the one I normally use. I have noticed many are commenting that you should add lemon zest for authenticity but many regions do not add lemon zest. It is personal preference. I was not brought up with lemon zest in my sweet bread so I don’t use.

Great video! I don't have my Portuguese grandmother's recipe, but I'm sure she'd approve of this. I'm going to make some for my 2 year old grandson. He tried some a few months back and was obsessed. Thank you so much for your excellent instructions.

I made these bread last night and I have made so many breads but your tips like” mix dough 5 minuets for the gluten to rise up” helped me to be more careful with my dough and the bread cake out awesomeeeeeee

I can't wait to try it. I am a bit at a loss though. there doesn't seem to be a lot of sweeteners added in.

It's not as sweet as a quick bread like banana bread. It has a more subtle sweetness. Try it. You can always increase the sugar slightly when you make it again. Enjoy. -Denis

Not everyone. My mom and mother-in-law never did. They added lemon zest was to the sweet rice pudding.

Maria, thanks for your input on this recipe, my Portuguese sister. It gives me more confidence to try it out. I must agree with G Pav though. My grandmother did not add lemon zest either. She was from the Azores. Nonetheless, either way, it's delicious, I'm sure!

nice job , I love portuguese sweet bread. I live in southeastern ma, but am in CT at the campground 6mths out of the yr. So , I'll be trying out your recipe on chilly mornings. Happy Camping!

Another beautiful recipe Dennis. It is definitely baking weather! I'll be trying this recipe tomorrow. Thank you. Oh, by the way...I'm the one who is allergic to pineapple, so was asking about making the Hawaiian sweet bread with apple juice. I tried it, and had to alter the amount of flour a bit. I'm thinking the pineapple juice has a few more solids in it than the apple does, so the measurement comes out a little differently. It was very good, though!

My cut lines opened up so big that I couldn't see the lines. Was that because I didn't let it rise more? Smells good though.

I always worry that if I slice the top it will deflate. Happened to me before when making regular bread.

why not use the dough hook in the beginning?

The dough hook is a kneading tool, not a mixing tool.

I don't have a definitive answer, but as I understand it egg yolks add richness, color, and flavoring because of their fat content. Egg whites are more of a binding agent. I think a good example is my recipe for Cats' Tongues. (kzbin.info/www/bejne/e6rEkHame9VmppY) I wouldn't attempt that recipe with yolks or whole eggs because the cookies wouldn't turn out correctly.
