Great info. When I lived in SB I used to free dive a lot for lobster I would see the most halibut in super shallow during the winter. Biggest hali I ever seen diving was in December in about 10 feet of water it was every bit of 45lbs laying in a sand channel between the eel grass, biggest I shot was 32lbs in November in low 50-degree water. My good friend bounce ball's commercially he claims they go deep in the winter my experience is the big girls are shallow as long as the swell is down. Problem is you can't bounce that shallow so maybe drift live bait. Your channel is underrated you deserve more subs.

Thanks for the info , I appreciate that means a lot , I bounced 120 / 150 ft on this last trip maybe I was too deep

Try trolling bay farm inland bridge out to open water along the south side we used to do that in the 70s to old to go now .Split tail fishing probably great around that bridge to . personal best stripper there 28lbs.tight lines❤

Nice video bro, just kinda scary to troll with your rods bending sideways. Recommend you turn rods 1/4 turn so they are arched in the direction they are made for. If a big fish hits or you get snagged on bottom with drag too tight could break a rod.
@fv_hightide7 ай бұрын
Thanks but I have my drag set just right , I’ve got snagged plenty of times and it just pulls the drag , I like keeping the balls far apart especially when I’m running three rods

Great video, very informative. any reason why you use mono instead of fluorocarbon, at least going to the hoochie? Might get bit even better with fluro since it’s invisible.
@fv_hightide Жыл бұрын
I don’t like using floro, floro is only good for one hook up with a big fish then needs to be replaced
@fv_hightide Жыл бұрын
Thanks 👍
@carloadapimps6870 Жыл бұрын
noticed that halibut have relatively small eyes, which in effect means that they’re not visual feeders they feed off that lateral line that goes on the top and the bottom of the fish. Floral carbon is real brittle anyways, and if it chafes easy and it’s not necessary.
@navenR Жыл бұрын
Are you finding the flashers and hoochies at BTCT in SM or another local store? For what ever reason, I keep catching sharks instead of buts. I'm hoping to land my first hali this year and could use a little advice, so I really appreciate your videos. I usually go out just north of you just because I'm not a fan of Port SLs launch (no slots on my trailer). Maybe I should be trying south a little more often. Thanks again.

GOOD JOB ON SET-UP, 4 CAL, I WOULD USE LIGHTER LINE , LIKE 30lb, BETTER MOVEMENT ?
@fv_hightide Жыл бұрын
These halis will chew right threw 30 lb I’m surprised they chew threw 60lb , the dodger is what gives them there movement, how far you put the hoochie back from the dodger , farther away for less movement and closer for more

Those snap swivels that you’re using foul easy and when they do foul they will they can cut your line. they can also cut your line if you tangle with one of your other rigs, that’s in the water. I use scissor snaps exclusively.

I’ve never had that happen but I’ll look up scissor snaps thanks
