This is the start of a series and will build this out over time. I rather make a few ~10 minute long videos instead of making one giant one. This is basic, will see how it resonates and will iterate from there. I think WWIIOL was a really good place to really learn how to fly and to fly with people and will try to incorporate some lessons from there and translating them to IL-2.

What IL-2 is this? The non-clickable cockpits/ lots of key binding in the BoX's kinda turned me off after having started in DCS.

@@JordanOwnby This is IL-2 Great Battles (aka IL-2 BoX). It is not full fidelity like DCS for individual aircraft but it has more breadth in terms of aircraft for one era. Ironically, the game that models individual planes better (DCS) has been incapable of actually simulating a semi-realistic air conflict. What I mean by that is DCS jumps around way too much between different eras and hasn't been able to fully flesh out one. There are huge gaps in what is flyable so this has lead to ace combat-esque match ups in the plane sets. I am hoping in the next year or two DCS can fully flesh out the cold war and the multiplayer scene begins to develop more there because I believe that is where the most potential is. I know DCS players get annoyed when I say this but if you look at what has been made playable and what it is not, it is very obvious there are some planes that need to be urgently brought into the game to bring parity between the sides.

Please do one on defending attackers. I fly the 110 exclusively, and often times people just wander off instead of staying with you to help. A lot of the newer "fighter jocks" dont realize, that if you stick with a 110, gives a huge advantage. 1st, the gunner on the 110 acts like a sort of radar, so even if either of you dont see the enemy, the gunner can and will call out. 2nd, the 110 is no slouch, it can easily use team tactics with a fighter to take out one, or even multiple enemies depending on the situation. Of course, being on comms helps A LOT.

Misc and I will be doing some high altitude bomber flights on the Finnish server tonight at 7pm EST. If you are interested in joining, meet us on the Finnish Server Discord then. If you are brand new then feel free to join. We are going to be doing the flight for noobies so taking it nice and gentle. If you are interested in learning how to escort bombers or learn how to level bomb, this would be a good opportunity.

It's a steep learning curve. Would recommend to check out discords on the server you play on to find other players to play with.

Good stuff...always more fun flying with a wingman and learning to gel together. Most of my wingman know my flying style and vice versa and we know how we will react to certain situations 90% of the time, which is invaluable. Keep these vids coming Enigma

You are going to get stomped on no matter what, so just better to get it over with now and start the learning process. Once you find a group of players to play with then you will get over the hump quicker.

Nice video. I like the shorter format. I've been wanting to try to practice the half split which is basically a drag and bag, but would require a fair amount of communication.

Yes, I actually try to keep things under 15 minutes but lately for whatever reason, the videos have all gotten much longer. My general preference is always to make things a bit shorter to be respectful to everyone's time.

Is WWIIOL dead? I know they were making a new FPS as a test bed for a new engine. Aces High 2 (now AH3?) was where I did most of my flying. I preferred the ground play of WWIIOL. I'd love to see a game with a larger library of weapons, like War Thunder (but limited to the more conventional stuff, leave the experimental crap out), use the logistics of WWIIOL (but updated/better), with the play/flight/mechanical dynamics of IL2/DCS. Have the infantry combat of Hell Let Loose/Squad. Appreciate the content. This is the stuff I enjoy the most I think.

I played a little of Aces High but my take on it is that it was pretty competitive. Some of the best people I see who I fly with or against all came from WWIIOL or Aces High. I think WWIIOL was a great game for a while but the developers just slowly ruined the game. It's simply just too old and this new FPS they are doing is going to fail against Post Scriptum or HLL IMO.

@@Enigma89 Agreed, yea I think the timing of the release was a little off. We're in the ww2 surge right now. Noticed that certain fads just come and go, right now we seem to be in the ww2 fad, next it'll be like the zombie fad, after that probably sci-fi fad.

Friends and I are new to the server and we're loving all the How To videos! We mainly play on the Axis and notice our team usually ain't doing front-line bombing as efficiently as the red. Thus, I was wondering If you have plans to make a video specifically for this subject? If not, could you give us advice on how a 2 to 3 men group could better contribute to frontline scoring? Like which plane to fly, types of bomb to carry and target to focus on?
@Enigma89
@Enigma89 3 жыл бұрын
Glad you guys are enjoying the videos. I will just answer in text because it is easier. The best way to push the front is to bomb the frontline and then bomb the matching depots/industrial railyard associated with the frontline. Think of the frontline has a health pool. All of the static AI targets from all of the targets are worth points. The thing that actually moves the frontline is the variance between the frontline health. What compounds it is killing the depots. So the frontline is always priority and then once you start building a variance between your frontline health and theirs then you go hit a depot. Doing Ju-88 runs at altitude with 2-3 guys is by far the most efficient way if you can level bomb. I have a video here on it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bpfSp6F3psp7hqc If you do not feel like flying level bombers, then taking 110s or 190s with bombs is the 2nd best way. You have to kill the flak first and then you start killing the buildings. Once depots are below 50% HP, I generally switch targets. What happens is that the depots become very sparse in targets and they aren't grouped up. So from a Score/Time perspective, you will get less points for each drop because of dead targets already there. In general, bombing them is worth more than defending your own targets. It's only a worthy time investment to defend your targets if you can get them before they bomb. This assumes that they are coming (potentially wasted time). It's always better to go bomb them. I have a video on defending depots here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJytgYJtob54bac Those two videos are some of my older ones so the production quality isn't as good as my more recent videos but the information is still applicable. To answer your last question, its most efficient to use 50kg bombs. This assumes you have good accuracy, I do not have good accuracy with jabos, so I take 250kg or 500kg. The TLDR is if you want to win the campaign and help, you need to bomb their frontline and then take off a chunk out the associated depot in the same sector. Always prioritize the frontline.
@LymarkW
@LymarkW 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the quick reply! We've watched both videos too, and we're pretty confident in level-boming their depots. I think our issue now is dealing the same effect on, usually very contested, frontline targets without making it a suicide run. Just to be clear, do you also suggest to level bomb frontline too? I don't think I've ever seen anyone doing it thus far. Also, I'd assume that 50kg can one hit kill anything as long as it's a direct hit(bunker, factory etc)?
@Enigma89
@Enigma89 3 жыл бұрын
@@LymarkW I have experimented a lot with bombing the frontline. It's not worth it sadly. We did it one time where we had 4 of us in Ju-88s at 5k trying to drop. The targets are too spread out and there is just too much activity (you may bomb an already dead target). The best way to bomb the frontline and not dying is one pass haul ass. I like to dive from east to west. So I fly past the target, split-s bomb and run away. That way the energy you have built from your dive is used to make your escape. If you start turning you will die. If you have escorts, you can try to hold the space while you get people to strafe but its hard. 50kg pretty much kill everything with one bomb except for the big factory buildings, they take a few more. How many is not clear to me.

DCS jumps around a lot between WWII to Modern Day fighters. This leaves huge holes in playable planes and with the business model of DCS, they fragment the community. Meaning, if you do not have the WWII asset pack or Syria, then you are locked out of a decent number of servers. IL-2 has a better business model where you only need the base game and you can connect to any server. You may not be able to fly everything but you can at least join the server and fly an old plane. DCS is much larger than IL-2 but IL-2 has a better and more competitive multiplayer scene. IL-2 planes are not full fidelity while DCS models out everything. Both have their problems but if I had to pick one to fly only in multiplayer it would be IL-2. I do think DCS has potential to get better but they really need to just focus and flesh out one era to get parity between the sides.
