Thank you for cutting through the maze of how it's traditionally done & using Elmer's School Glue to baste a quilt. I'm an intermediate beginner who uses the QAYG method, (love Lorena's binding/no binding tutorials), and did not want to deal with repetitive pinning pieces nor the noxious fumes of spray basting. I love your simple, direct & non-toxic approach to quilt basting. I already have Elmer's School Glue, (stick & bottle versions), along with sponge brush in the house. Thanks again for your tutorial!!

I use Elmer's too! I press the backing and top piece first. I tape the backing down to the floor, then lay the batting over, then the top piece. I roll up each side like you did to glue, then lightly press to heat set the glue, then cut. Then I can quilt knowing everything is smooth and not budging :D

Elmers glue is so awesome! I used Elmer’s glue for fabric painting and it washes out so easily. I’m going to try is on my latest quilt. Will still work great with the pool noodle method.

Okay... now that is not what I picture when I think of someone 'quilting'! ha ha... I am so naive to so many things... the final product looks amazing! What about cleaning the quilt... do you wash it in a washing machine? How does the glue hold up? They may be dumb questions, but I really have no idea about this stuff... I love how it looks when you do the 'binding' step... amazing... ha ha... she is so cute... she appears to like the camera... ha ha...

Ice but you always leave extra batting at least 2 inches all around till you quilt then trim as the layers will still shift

Hmmm… I’m thinking that basting first everything and then trimming the edges using a rotary cutter would be easier.

I like your method!! Thanks for posting. Nice video but hard to hear you speaking with that annoying clattering music. I have used diluted school glue when pressing my fabric to stiffen it for more accurate cutting. Works like Terial Magic but WAY cheaper.

I'm still amazed you can use glue to bund together a quilt!! will it hold up the same with regular washing??
@OrphaBeatrice
@OrphaBeatrice 5 жыл бұрын
Patricia Marie this step is used to bind the batting to the front and back fabrics. It’s used as a temporary hold so the all three pieces can move through the sewing machine when you too stitch the quilt. ( it’s REALLY hard, almost impossible, to machine sew 3 pieces of fabric together without some kind of basting first. This Elmer’s method it a strong hold 💪🏼 but then washes out beautifully after it’s been machine sewn♥️

Can you use a regular needle when quilting your quilts together? I believe I have heard of a nonstick needle for glueing your quilt together.
