You choose your degree as "Nursing" or "Prenursing" depending on what the college asks for. Thank u Romi for such a great video! I live in Texas too n had my eyes set on TAMUCC BSN for the longest time .... but then they expected me to pay $400 for books for these 2 entry nursing classes before official admittance into the program which I was so appalled about. This lead me to just consider my local community college bc I know they cant charge their students this much for books because they're not a known brand school. This is an extremely helpful video. I wished I had stumbled upon this when I had graduated a year ago from high school like you're absolutely right when u said we're all RNs at the end of the day regardless of what route. Just o confirm the process: 1) graduate hs 2) prerequisites in community college 3) nursing school to get bsn degree? 4)pass NCLEX RN test For doing prerequisites in community college you mentioned nursing major( does that mean that your doing a nursing program while doing prerequisites for that program)? After nursing school do you get a BSN degree after you finished?
@Romi_joy4 жыл бұрын
Hi there you pretty much got the process down!! When you declare yourself as a “nursing” or “prenursing” major your first year (names differ based on school you attend but mean the same thing), you are doing prerequisites as a nursing major but you are not necessarily in the program until you get accepted after completing the prereqs . It’s the same thing as calling yourself an education major but are still doing the prereqs before you enter the education program, etc. After nursing school you get your BSN, unless you applied to an ADN program and if you did you would get your ADN at the end. Hope that helps!!
@maylam88774 жыл бұрын
Thanks for clarifying!! I did a little research and the nursing schools mostly offer rn to bsn programs, is it better for me to get into ADN then be in a BSN? Once I get accepted into the BSN nursing school is it 4 years to complete the degree, despite finishing prerequisites in a community college?
@Romi_joy4 жыл бұрын
@@maylam8877 it’s better on whatever works for you and your plan. If you want to get your BSN straight away then that’s great, but if you want to get your ADN and work as an RN while obtaining your BSN online that’s great too! Keep in mind it will be harder to obtain a job, but still doable, if you only have your ADN. Once you get into a BSN nursing program it’ll be 2-2 1/2 years to complete your degree. If you’re starting at a university to take your prereqs+do the nursing program there it’ll be 4 years for everything.

I do have a question though, after I get my ADN and take the exam, pass, and start my career, is it mandatory that I attend nursing school? I will eventually get my BSN through the hospital.
@Romi_joy4 жыл бұрын
So when you attend community you'll be doing 1-2 years of prerequisites ("pre-nursing) and apply to the nursing school program there offered through the college, that's how you will get your ADN. So pretty much you'll be in nursing school to get your ADN. Does that help?

It definitely depends on the state you're in and if you're going private or public, or community. If you're going to university, around $25-50k/year. Community college could be less than 10k for the entire program.

@Romi_joy3 жыл бұрын
it is just another 2 years after the prerequisites to get your bsn, for a total of 4 years [depending on whether you went to straight uni or going to cc first]
@athenab28023 жыл бұрын
so becoming a nurse after high school does not actually take 2 years after highschool. because you have to take some classes and then do a nursing program at the school. is this correct?
@Romi_joy3 жыл бұрын
It varies, you can get into nursing school right after high school if you have the prerequisites done from dual credit classes. Or you can do classes over the summer and fall/spring/winter semesters at a community after you graduate high school and finish in less than a year. But typically, if you go to a university and follow the fall/spring curriculum you finish prereqs in 1 and a half years. Then you can get your ADN in a year or BSN in 2 years. Just depends on how fast you can do nursing prereqs.

Hi i have some questions! So I am deciding to go to community college and in that college you can get your associates degree in nursing , after getting that do I apply to a university? Or nursing school? 2. How many years does it take to graduate nursing school? I did not have the best grades in hs due to personal issues but I will graduate at the end of summer I’m just so confused and need guidance (which I thank you for making this video) I am really interested in working as a nurse as I found my purpose in this life haha. What do you think I should do?
@Romi_joy3 жыл бұрын
After you get your associates degree in nursing you can work as a nurse at that point as you will have already gone to nursing school. That is what most people do at that stage and then you can do your bachelors online. It takes 2-3 years for an associates or 4 years for a bachelors (prereqs included). I think if nursing is something you are passionate about that you should definitely go for it!! Work on your GPA this summer to bump up your overall GPA and apply apply apply!! You got this.

Maybe Someone Can Answer this for me. So when I Turned 20 I went to EMT School for the year. It didn't require any previous classes to get accepted into the program, Just a High School diploma. I just turned 25 last month and am now wanting to get my RN. So my question is, do I have to take "core" classes? Whats the difference between core classes and pre reqs? If so, how long would it take for me to do core classes then the pre reqs? Thanks!
@Romi_joy3 жыл бұрын
They could mean the same thing. Are those core classes the same as the prereqs I listed and did you take them at a college? If so, then your answer is yes and they are transferable if the school allows. Then you would just have to take the prereqs you haven’t taken yet as a core class.
