I produced my first 3 clutches this year and couldn’t be happier. I’ve never been bitten so many times in a day. These hatchlings are crazy. Lol

I purchased my first 5 balls last month. All are so docile. I’m picking up 3 more the end of this month. I guess I hit the jackpot because everyone else says that hatchlings can be crazy. 😅

I’ve got my first two clutches on the way! I’m so nervous and want to be prepared. At what point in time do we wash the hatchlings? What should I expect? It would be neat if this channel made a video on first time snake parents and what to expect. He’s got a lot of sound advice.

Damnit I like the way you look at things! I wish more people had a thought process like you. From the perspective of a "breed curious", aspiring "for profit" breeder(me), its intimidating out there... I've met a small number of people I'm comfortable enough with to ask questions. if I wasnt so stubborn, I could've easily quit before I bought my first snake due to the smug remarks I've been met with. Thank y'all for all the great info and motivation!

Such a great video! Thanks for putting it up. It’s just what I needed today! It’s my first season breeding ball pythons. I’m from South Africa and I’ve gone into my first season quite big and bought mid to high end adult proven breeders for this season, sub adults and juveniles for my 2022 and 2023 projects and beyond. I tried to go slow but the more I learn, the more I want to get stuck in! It’s such an awesome hobby! It’s addictive! In total I’ve bought about 65 snakes in the last 6 months. I’ve got a good friend who breeds really high end snakes and is mentoring me, so I’m very lucky. Ive also bought 95% of my snakes from him, so he’s made a lot of money, so yes, be nice to “the new guy” because they come back and buy more snakes! I’ve had about 8 lock ups this first season but I think only 3 or 4 girls will go. Next season I hope to have at least 15 clutches and who knows what 2023 will bring. I certainly have enough snakes to produce between 40 and 50 clutches in 2023 without buying another snake and without any holdbacks. It’s been a lot of hard work and I do everything myself. Today was one of those days where thought, “what’s the point? Some Snakes not eating, some haven’t ovulated that should’ve and I was just feeling down about it, given all the time and money I’ve invested in this project. Maybe I went in too big too soon. Who knows? But it’s my first season and it’s all about learning as you go. Today I had to remember that it shouldn’t be about the money first, but rather the passion first. Enjoy what you do and have fun! If you work hard then the money will come. It’s still early days for me. But watching this video boosted my confidence again and for that I thank you! I’m also breeding my own rodents, because as I soon discovered, snakes cost money to feed and the more you have the more you pay! So, I started breeding my own rodents and now my only cost is rat food and the usual cleaning products, substrate etc etc. As soon as I start selling snakes, I’ll be able to hopefully pay myself back for everything I’ve invested and earn a few extra bucks for myself on the side. I still have a full time job and that isn’t going change. Good luck to all the new breeders and hobbyists out there! This reptile industry is awesome! Thanks Olympus for this video! Carl, from Northcoast Constrictors in South Africa

Awesome to hear from the other side of the world! South Africa is on my bucket list to visit. You didn't go to big as long as you can handle it time wise, and if you out lost the investment it isn't going to break you, and it doesn't sound like it would. Go for it!

I dont remember which channel I was watching I only watch a few, but the person said if you prefer a particular morph and want to start breeding get normal or normal het females and get the male as your powerhouse morph and create little het armies until you get what you want. I though about that and my first 2 snakes are just over a year old both female het pied and was waiting to get a male till they were older but had an opportunity to get one of my dream snakes from an awesome local breeder of snakes and rats and I got a male visual pied!!!! He is a absolute dream snake now I just have to wait till the girls get to the right size and I can try pairing them. I have watched all your videos and can't wait to get into breeding
@OlympusReptiles3 жыл бұрын

When I was a kid all my homework has snake shit on it for years because everyday after the bus dropped me off I'd fill my backpack up with gardner snakes. One time I caught 100 of them in a day I was maybe 3rd grade put them in a refrigerator box next day only one in the box 🤣 I bet that house is still haunted with snakes tell ya what though didn't see a field mouse there again lmao. Great video like always appreciate it especially after being out of the snake game for so many year thus has lit a fire under my behind that I haven't had in a long time!

I could probably handle breeding garter snakes with no problem. Jewel passed away at the doctor’s office so I gotta bury her and get another snake Saturday. The main problem if I bred garter snakes once is that they have dozens of babies at once so I would have to find homes because I don’t have what it takes to take care of that many.

Hey Matt! I have a female baby banana ball python and a male banana ball python. Of course I’m going to wait til the female gets to size before I breed them together. I just don’t know where to start or what to do to get started. Or what to do when the eggs are finally laid, and do I separate them from the mother.
