@@Alex-ir5jt Yep. I hang out with her for several hours every other week. We'll text each other sometimes. I'll go out to eat with her and her boyfriend sometimes. If you want to check on your ex, make sure that you're not the only emotional outlet for him. Make sure he's socializing with other people as well so that he can more comfortably transition to relying on other people for more personal needs. So long as you're both spreading your requirements among a larger group of people, your communication should be fine.

Me and my bf broke up two days ago but tonight I gave him a call and told him everything that was on my chest (things I always held back on telling in the relationship) . Obviously I was upset but I knew this breakup was coming sooner or later literally our one year would’ve been in two days. But since I’ve been preparing myself already it was really simple to bounce back from that. Yes I have love for him but not in love. @@blessaries Update: So we started being friends after he broke up with me and he just didn't want to let me go as a person. That following week he took me to the movies as friends but he kept trying to be something else (October). Up until December, he started being distant again. He kept telling me he loved me. We both transferred to the same University (not because of each other). Due to this, he said we should be together there. This whole Spring semester I've been nothing but depressed because I've been lied to over and over again by him. As soon as we got there he pretended like he didn't know me or would stand me up if he asked to hang out but would still try to monitor or control me. It was all just very toxic. All I wanted was the truth and to be cool with him no matter what. If he didn't like me anymore he could've just said so and I would have been fine. I unshared my location when we got back for Spring break because I simply just didn't think anything could happen anymore (he shouldn't even have my location if we aren't together). So I ended it and have not spoken to him since. He got really mad and confused about why I unshared my location. I honestly would like closure and still be friends but he just isn't mature enough to speak to me.

Kelsey Moodley Thanks for sharing! All it comes down to making sure you’re not actively talking/texting/hanging out for a period of time to get the habits of the relationship out of your system. If you see him in class that’s totally okay, just make an effort to limit your interactions so you re-learn how to it feels to be without him. Hope that helps!

Great video! My situation is exactly like this. My blackout period took a while to actually formulate and I finally got three months. But the problem was she and I didn’t communicate for a while and she ended up hating me for a bit. We finally had our talk a couple of days ago and i went great! But with me it’s been kind of hard. I love that we are friends again and I love when we call, but sometimes I feel still like I miss the good times in the relationship. Getting over this is my problem now. Any tips?

XtremeSpeedz yay I’m so glad you guys are at a good place! It honestly takes time. Sounds so cliche but it’s true. You’ll always miss some parts of the relationship, so just focus on the fact that it means you had a good relationship and that your friendship will be built on that foundation. Time will either make you realize your friendship is stronger than a romantic relationship, or it will make you realize you preferred her as a girlfriend. Give it a bit and see how it goes! After two years of “black out”, and thanks to the pandemic, I’m back in my home town, and I see my ex a lot. I low key still have so much love for him, and I care for him, but I know he probably doesn’t feel the same towards me. He was actually mean and dry with me at first, but after talking to him, he apologized and we decided to get along with me. For two days,after the talk, he got a little physical, started hugging and standing very close to me, and even inviting himself to shop with me. He stopped afterwards, though, which confused me a lot.. because I forgot for a second that we are just friends.. And now, I’m in this weird phase where at times I remember and miss the good times, and feel the urge to text him every day to ask him about his day, but hold back because I know I’m doing it with romantic feelings. In part it’s my fault for not setting boundaries and not seeing him as just a friend. I just hope one day I can see and talk to him without feeling any sort of romantic feeling. Thanks for sharing. I personally find it hard to fully move on when there’s a part of my daily routine still tied to the person I’m trying to move on from. It might not seem like a lot, but sometimes even a goodnight text can give you that sense of connection to a person. Ultimately I can’t speak for all cases, but in my experience it’s the most effective to not speak to each other if the goal is to move on.

Evan Fero it can be tricky when a new relationship starts-you don’t want to do anything that could ruin something good, and sometimes a lingering ex can trigger that. In my personal opinion, you can reach out expressing what you’ve shared in this comment, with the expectation that it might not receive the outcome you want. From what I’ve gone through myself, sometimes opinions change from right after a breakup to present state. It could range from realizing you don’t have space or emotional capacity to create that kind of friendship, to realizing you’re not completely over your ex. My ex and I used to be friends before we dated, the relationship got pretty toxic so we decided to end things. There was a phase of resentment, but now, almost 2 years later, we’ve both moved on from that and decided that it’s a good idea to be friendly/friends. We loved each other and i still do but i am not sure about him. One time he acts like he really loves me and at other he doesnot even care. He doesnot call me for a week and all of a sudden he starts to care. I was very tired and hurt and i finally decided to act like a friend, obviously care about him and i do love him but i decided not to show that love and not to force him to express his love. I don't know whether i am doing right or not coz i feel if i do this, he starts to feel that i no longer love him and he realises and express his feelings.

Ok my situation is my ex broke up woth me and it changed my perception of them i dont see myself being with them ever again but i do want to have them stick around ive thought about everything and made my mind and i wanna still be friends. After our id say short black out period last time I talked to my ex she didn’t seem all too there like she was uncomfortable? Distracted? I didn’t know what she was thinking or feeling. maybe I should wait longer should i talk to her she stated she has a lot of things going on nothing specific so i can’t understand should I approach her because she definitely isn’t gonna or at least I don’t believe she is I just really wanna casually talk to her without her having that “ur my ex awkwardness” I wanna know what shes going through its just kinda hard to start up anything or actually idk how to properly start talking to them without invading their space and putting them on a spot. Im in contact with one of her friends and he’s helpful should i keep talking to him and get some insight on the matter im going through hoops and shoots or ladders to try and communicate one on one or casually ill give it more time. Just wait another week or month is there a waiting period too long? What would be the shortest time im impatient or well ive become impatient since last time I waited 3 weeks of silence just to end up single OH SHIT SHE RUINED ME WAITING FOR SHIT! at this point im throwing everything out sorry and thank you if someone reads this

It is unhealthy to be friends with your ex unless you have spent 10+ years and have kids. You can be civil and greet each other but people misunderstand the whole "friendship with exes". There is no need to keep in touch with your ex on regular bases because it will affect your current relationship even if the new bf is secure enough to handle it. Think about it....why would you need your ex close to you?Respect?Sure, but friends....hmmm
