God this is so good! You really encouraged me so much! I grew up loving Harry Potter and so I always wore those black cloaks, sounds childish, but that's were it all started with me. And since I started listening to Evanescence (typical and not goth, but still dark in some moments, I know, I know, but I can't help it, it's my fav band) I came across words like "Goth" and "Gothic" and so one thing came to another. I always loved the night, the darkness, graveyards make me feel calm and I also really LOVE the colour black. It's cool you say I can listen to whatever I want and still be part of the goth community as long as I know the roots. To be honest, I only listen to rock and metal. As I said before, Evanescence. But also Nightwish, Epica, Halestorm and Within Temptation. And now I want to let the inner goth become the outside goth, too!♡ Thanks so much for this great video! DANKE!♥

I wear alot black hoodies and pants shirts spike skulls bracelets chains. I listen to alot metal goth evanscence. I think its what you want to be if you want to be goth be it forever dont change it. I think to be goth is pretty simple. Wear black. Wear whatever dark clothes you like. Its okay to mix it up with different styles sometimes like emo or punk just as long as you mainly wear black. If you dont live near any alternative stores, just buy any black clothes in a regular store. There is nearly always something with black and white stripes. Thats great because you can create a burtonesque style. I think when people ask how to be goth, what they really mean is where to find the clothes.

Gosh, all these people who want to be "taught" how to be gothic...guys, if you are goth, you are. It's not a thing you have to learn, or you can actually learn! Hey Aaron. Think about one thing: your brothers and sisters can do with their life's what they want. If you want to be goth they must and will accept that. Probably they are just scared because they do not know what goth is. You would be a great brother and helper to the goth community if you would explain them what goth is about. You can tell them that goth is all about a music taste, special interests [goth clothing, medieval stuff,...] and that goth's are just normal nice people from the inside, with good jobs and a warm heart. And don't forget the most important thing: most people don't become goth, they simply are goth ;). Other advice I would give is wear good quality makeup, even if your clothes are cheap. Invest in good makeup because when you are a babybat, your eyeliner smudges and leaks more. :/

If someone is interested in learning about goth they should consider reading "What Is Goth" by Voltaire (the one from New Jersey not the french enlightenment writer). It's a short (less than 100 pages) and well illustrated book that outlines how goth came to be, sub genres of gothic culture, stile tips for different goth looks (those to embrace and those to avoid), and even some advice on how to deal with 'normal' people who give you a hard time. It also addresses a number of misconceptions about goth that even I had when I was new to the subculture. It's a heart felt, critical, and humorous look, from a man who has been goth since before goth was goth, at the subculture we call home. It was very helpful to me when I was starting to identify as goth and asking what goth really meant to me and to those around me.

well you know, in my opinion you can listen to whatever you like. Just know about the roots of the style you claim to be. If someone askes you if you enjoy for example cold wave music or deathrock or whatever, you can just say: I know the music but it personally isn't my favourite and that you are more into other bands and genres
