Higher ups were paranoid they couldn't show the movie in some countries due to censorship of LGBTQ+ characters. There was a fair bit of freakout when they included the officer in Outward mentioning her girlfriends kids, and I do believe the line was altered or cut in some countries. But they did get to keep in a few more subtle nods that homophobes would likely not notice, but the queer community would instantly pick up on. Like her with the goth girl.
