This reminds me of the time my best friend took me shopping for my 18th birthday and we went into this shop and I saw this amazing gothic dress and as I was looking at it my best friend told me to try it on and I completely dismissed that with the words "they probably don't have it in my size, besides even if they did, it wouldn't look right on me because it's designed of skinny people" little did I know that the owner of the store who was a very well known elder goth in the area was listening in on our conversation and at this point decided to interrupt, she found my size, made me try on the dress before telling me "if you feel good in an outfit then you will look good in the outfit, size is irrelevant to the way you choose to express yourself." And then I went to pay for the dress but she wouldn't take my money and insisted that I take the dress as a reminder of her lesson and now I wear it all the time and I love it, the annoying thing is that I had all but dismissed the dress because of my weight but every time I wear it someone says I look pretty.

But since most Gothic clothing companies (at least 90%) don't do plus size, I am assuming that you weren't actually fat. The largest sizs most of the companies nake is a US 12, UK 16. The handful of companies doing plus size make more gothabilly style. You cannot find Victorian style Gothic clothing in Plus sizes. You're very lucky you can fit into straight sizes, as I cannot wear the clothes I used to since gaining 8 stone. I am forced to wear Hell Bunny and the like, despite being into Romantic-Victorian Gothic myself. Those clothes don't suit me at all and are much too young for me as well. They seem very psychobilly or 1940s and 50s look. I hate those styles and eras. I like Victorian, 1930s and 1970's styles which are nonexistent in my size. However if anyone knows of a conpany sell8ng gorgeous plus sizes (I wish Dark in Love & Punk Rave would!), please let me know. Glad the elder goth gave you tour confidence though. After becoming fat (by way of permanent disability), I tried wesring "normal" clothes...for 10 years I wore jeans, t shirts, and scarves. Or floral dresses with leggings (ny legs are scarred, swollen and deformed so i always covered them). Ugh. It wasn' t me and I felt so uncomfortable when I went out. Finally 2 yrs agi I decided to be myself. I was already stared, made fun of, and harassed for being a wheelchai user (thats common in UK/ Europe), and so obviously now I get that even worse just for wearing black and dark lipstick. But at least I feel more comfortable and I'm not hiding the real me any longer.

I really love this video you made, goth is defiantly not about body shape. If your fat, skinny, fit , pear shaped, or curvy you can and always still be a goth. I know a few gothic models who are in fact in the plus sized category and they look just as elegant or even beautiful as the ones who wear a size 6. I really hate all of the fat shaming some people of the goth subculture have it's not right at all. I have a few goth friends who are a bit bigger than my size 6 butt and they rock it yet others try to make fun of them but say I look amazing? I wish some day people will stop with the fat shaming already it's getting very old. :(

As a 33 year old fat goth it is wonderful to hear a young man who is of our subculture say these things. I myself have been shamed by others, though I still live my life how I please, it really is a difficult thing to just be happy with qho you are ans not let others dictate your own uniqueness. Thank you so much for this . I constantly have doubts about myself because of my body. When I was young my father used to call me horrible names and ridicule me because of my weight so I've struggled to have a positive image of myself but I'm starting to try and fight it and your video helped alot . And being quite a large goth it's hard for me to find things I like in my size so it's kind of discouraging but lately I've been viewing tutorials on diy ideas for inspiration and videos like this really give me the courage to be myself despite my body and dress in a way that reflects myself . I'm just so happy to find this video. I'm what you can consider a fat goth. In my country that's hard because, let alone the lack of stores where you can find gothy clothes (or clothes that you can modify, specially if you don't know how to sew very well. And even if you do, it's still hard to find fabric), the stores that have plus size clothes do not abound as well. And normally the clothes are not very interesting, because there's the idea that, if you're fat, it's good to have simple clothes to hide it. Also, the normal-size clothes they either don't fit me entirely or just on the shoulders, because I have large ones (large bones, not very fat shoulders).I have this dream of having a victorian-type dress, which is impossible in here. Not just because of size, but because I would be afraid of going out in the place that I live using it. I've a friend who got cigarrete burns for less than that (also a goth, but a more trad one). I found your video heartwarming. It's very good to know that there are people who think like that. I've seen nasty comments on the internet as well. People are stupid. And that kind of people doesn't help improving this situation --"

+Oriana Bats never, never ever be afraid of getting out in any kind of clothing. A nice looking victorian dress is easy to find on the internet. And since having a bit more weight was considered as beautiful in the victorian age, it is easy to find in larger sizes. And if you wear your dream dress (and as an clothing-technical assistent I can tell..) and you find yourself beautiful, you can go out anywhere you want. Ofcourse, ,,different'' people will always be a target, but if you want others to love you, you first should love yourself. So do not give a single f*ck about what others say about it. It's your life, so go and live it the way you want.

My hand shake all the time too. Mine’s genetic from my dad’s side. It confused a nerve doctor I saw. He had never hear of it. All I know is it gets worse with age. One of my Grandpa ‘s doctors thought it was Parkinson but we aren’t sure.

I was on the high side of 270 a couple years ago. That didn't change my appreciation of dark things, my love for music like The Sisters of Mercy and Joy Division, my appreciation of a dark aesthetic. Nor does my being...much slimmer now change any of that. Goth is in the heart, not in the waistline.

Of course they can, anyone who has a love for basic gothic bands can. And if you like only the aesthetics, I think so too. Now the issue of being overweight, we are talking about a person who has medical or personal problems. It's not the clothes you wear that's the problem, it's the care you give to your body.

To be honest, a lot of people including me find it's pretty cringy when ppl that are beyond being a bit overweight do this kind of stuff. You got to know that. But honestly, even if you could come off as that to some others, do you. If ur 300 pounds and want to embrace your Gothic side do it!! That is actually something I wanted to work on, because I don't understand, why it is so hard to find any good looking goth clothes in extra sizes.. maybe i will try to make a video with some advice on what to wear as a bigger person in the goth scene some day!

yes they can.goth is supposed to be the most non judgemental group because they know what it's like to be ostricised by the general public yet there are people in the goth community who forget that and act stuckup and are no better then the people who judge them.
