Introverts are just really bad at starting conversation. But once you get an introvert on a topic they are interested in and get them comfortable, good luck trying to get them to shut up. lol. But introverts also don't like parties because we get overwhelmed very easily. We take in sensory information quickly and parties have a lot of sounds and smells and then you have to worry about who you were going to talk to and about what. People make us tired. lol.

introverts can be great at a lot of things but if you're in a role where you need to interact with people on a somewhat regular basis you have to realize that you're at a disadvantage if you truly have difficulty interacting with people professionally speaking. it's perfectly fine to prefer to be alone but if you're unable to work in groups and with other people and do quote unquote extroverted things like lead a meeting or have fun at a company event it's going to slow you down professionally.

Yeah you never want to outshine your boss, you want to help your boss shine on their own. I have this ongoing joke with my boss that I bring safety concerns to him so that he can bring them to his boss and show that he's being attentive to safety concerns in the department, which is ironic because it doesn't really happen and it just ends up that my boss has to fix it but it's kind of a funny joke because my boss and I both understand that making a good impression is important but it's also funny because dealing with safety issues can be a pain in the ass sometimes and the fact that I always try to sell it as something wonderful is just like more salt in the wound 🤣😂🤣

Always enjoying your videos! Great suggestions with practical advice and in a down-to-earth way. - Another suggestion on how to be professional is to limit the amount of empty gossiping. If you get a gossiper reputation, no one will trust you with anything important. - Never complain to much about how the tasks are too confusing or too complicated or that you're not in the mood to do it. This all spells huge personality problems, especially responsibility wise. Always try to think HOW you can start doing the task and as soon as you start, it's going to get done.
@Thedistilledman1
@Thedistilledman1 5 жыл бұрын
yes, totally agreed! reminds me of something I used to tell my direct reports whne I worked in advertising: if you come to me with a problem, you need to have at least 2-3 potential suggestions for how to address it (along with which one you think is the best, and why).

building meaningful relationships with your co-workers is so key for such a variety of reasons especially for people like myself that tend to overreact and kind of snap it people for stupid reasons, I don't know why but this week I've kind of had a couple little snaps at different people and hopefully and/or fortunately because I've worked on building relationships with them it won't turn into a giant disaster

The advice for sending e-mails goes for talking and telling stories. Say what you need to say, maybe use a bit of humor and leave it there. People will ask you questions if they want to hear more, that way you don't monopolize the coffee break conversation. You have been inspiring me to change the content on my channel. Thanks for the video.I have been listening to your Podcasts as well. Roger

yeah my advice about talking about anything other than work at work is don't ever do it unless you have a very very high degree of trust because the people that are asking you questions about what's going on with you are the same ones that want to gossip about what you're doing to everyone else. I have a relatively close circle of friends at work and I have a great deal of respect for them they have some level of respect for me I share with them anecdotal stuff and sometimes I get into it a little bit more, perhaps I share a little bit too much about how I feel about things at work but I do try to limit it and there are certain people I absolutely refuse to talk about because they want nothing more than to just waste my time talking about nothing, there's actually a guy that works relatively close to me on the floor at the building where I work and he basically insists on saying stupid f****** comments to every single person that walks by and he literally if 50 people walk by him everyday he will have 25 conversations with half of them because he just can't f****** resist the urge to try to talk to people that are walking past him and it just absolutely pisses me off because he's not getting paid to have these conversations he's getting paid to do a specific job but apparently everyone that sits at that desk just gets passed by so many people that nobody in management ever cares to say look I know a lot of people walk past you all day but you really need to focus on your work and stop having 5 to 10 minute conversations with people

Excellent advice! Also, iff you're a programmer, consider ready "The Clean Coder: A code of conduct for professional developers." There's no code in the book. I recommend it to every developer I come into contact with. I was able to put what I learned directly into use when a manager asked me how long a certain project would take. "I don't like that answer" was the manager's response to my estimate, right in front of other managers, as if it were my duty to satisfy her! I responded with "development takes x amount of time, unit testing takes y, QA testing takes z. What would you like us to cut out in order to get done sooner?" Manager was stumped, but eventually asked "can't you all just try?" I responded immediately with "that assume the developers aren't trying now." The meeting was able to move on and this manager doesn't try twisting my arm anymore, particularly in front of the business!

Do you have a video about keeping your personal life private at work? That's something I'm looking to work on
@laprepper
@laprepper 3 жыл бұрын
that's a real tough one because you want to build some kind of relationship with people which means you need to share about stuff but the same time it's nice to keep most of what's going on in your life to yourself. I mean my co-workers know that I'm working on my house my dating life isn't very exciting I like motorcycles and I enjoy having a beer after work sometimes. Of course there's a lot more to my personal life that they don't know a lot about but I sort of share a little bit about stuff that I don't mind sharing about just so that I have conversation and I keep all the personal s*** to myself in my opinion the stuff that gets annoying is when people kind of ask questions that are really none of their f****** business and they put you on the spot and you're so used to being polite you almost automatically answer even when you really want to say that's none of your f****** business creep why don't you just focus on your work instead of trying to be all up in everyone else's s*** 😂🤣🤣😂
