I'm sorry, but there's nothing to see here. Move along. Steven Tyler is 74 years old and today I'm looking at recent footage of Aerosmith performing live. Can we even critique this? Is it possible to find fault? Maybe I'm blinded by love and admiration, so please correct me if you disagree.

Tom still manages it because he's singing with his 'natural' voice or range or whatever the technical term is, I think a lot of rock musicians just push their voices to extremes so hard they just break.

The fact that Aerosmith has a career that spans generations, you sometimes forget just how long they've been around. When I first heard them as a kid they already had a well established catalog of music, and they were still putting out hits for many years afterward. That's some longevity.

Considering the road he's lived to get to the age of 74, and if those clips are indeed some of the most recent live shows they've done -- he sounds borderline incredible. There's no way Steven cannot be on the Rock Frontman version of Mt Rushmore. Great singer with an incredibly unique tone, talented musician and songwriter, off the charts stage presence and he always looks cool as fuck. He's a one off.

I've only seen Aerosmith once, and that was on the PUMP tour - all I can say is they were AMAZING. The live Janie's Got a Gun sent goosebumps down my spine that I still remember today. I've not been overly inspired by later album releases other than Get a Grip, and I know a lot of veteran groups like these get criticised for performing more "greatest hits" on tour nowadays, but yeah if I got the opportunity now to see them again I deffo would. Totally brilliant that ST can still get the tunes and the notes out, keep rockin ST, but take care of yourself xx

Honestly thought this was going to be a horror show like the Bon Jovi vocal issues, but GODDAMN he can still get right up there for this one. At 74! A lot of singers should be reigning it back as they get older because they clearly can't do it like they used to, but if you can hit THOSE notes? You crack on. Fingers crossed your voice holds out that well too, Justin. :D

Joey, Brad and Tom don't get the credit they deserve from most people. They may stand a bit in the shadows of Steven and Joe, but they are every bit as vital to the sound of Aerosmith as those two.

I possess one of Steven Tyler's harmonicas. Third time I went to see him -solo tour, Kentish Town (London), 2018- I was up there, close to the stage, waiting for the exact moment when he'd throw the harmonica to the audience. The song, incidentally, is 'Cryin'''. He's been doing it for decades now. Long story short, I grabbed it from the floor, just half a second before the next man would. It sleeps ever since on my night stand. Every night. And I've told my best friend and my family to bury me with it when I die. This is a true story. Peace out x

No doubt…haven’t seen them but that dvd is gospel. Funny though that they had a period in the late seventies where they were notoriously bad live. Like couldn’t get all the way through songs bad. Train wreck intros bad. Their greatness also speaks to their determination, I believe.

Absolutely love what you are doing Justin. Alot of talk lately has been around the vocals of some of the frontmen due to their age and voice deterioration which is totally understanding but who cares.... BUT there is one man above everyone and that is the Lord sir Glenn Hughes, he has still got everything. Please could you do an analysis on his range and talent as a positive reaction to age would be great, the same as Jeff beck on guitar. Love listening to you(every day) and your popular beat combo you front. Steve.

Steven Tyler has always been one of my biggest vocal inspirations, along with Dio. Being a man of a deeper voice, I couldn't sing like them even if I was good enough but their techniques creep into my style all the same. This man has only impressed me more as the years have gone on. He never gave into his failures and he always came out better for them. Damn fucking right, they will be fucking amazing right until the very end and I thank whatever infinite being I believe in this week every day that I got to live in the same era as legends like them.

Deep Purple has a live video of "mistreated" but his channel has piles of clips and The Dead Daisies also have a ton of live songs they've been putting up in the past several months to promote their 2022 tours if you need fresher than 2017. It didn't fly by but I'm glad I'm still here - it's still a decent chunk of time. 🙂 Let's do a classic fellow that people might be sleeping on because they haven't published anything less than stellar, like, *ever* so there's literally zero notoriety unless you're a fan of kickass bass players that sing even better than they play bass.

Okay. Absolutely watch that performance on the Deep Purple channel. I just went back and watched it again and forgot Lachy Doley was sitting in that day. Talk about stage presence, Lachy Doley gives a workshop a session...the whamy clav :-)

Great episode! There's a strong novelty to Aerosmith's music along with Tyler's bluesy dramatic singing style and scat singing that's so unique. Steven is holding his own. I don't like to compare singers because as a highly versatile singer myself I can appreciate so many. But sure he is among a few of his era in from the US that have held up very well. A lot of praise in the comments and some brutal about them being overrated. Perry and Whitford are a unique guitar team along with Hamilton's grooving bass and Kramer's rhythms with hard-hitting funky jazz feel. There's a jam feel to many of their works,as opposed to predictable sterile precisely played parts.. Just a few observations here on what I appreciate about Aerosmith. Musical taste is one of the most highly subjective subjects so surprising perspectives abound. Againg, fun and insightful show!

Becoming slightly addicted to these video's. Always on while I'm cooking or working out (either this or Karl Pilkington). I think it would be cool to see you do a non-musical Q&A random episode. It might be a bit arbitrary but I think it would be a laugh xx

I'm so grateful my dad took me to first see Aerosmith in the late 80s when I was a kid, and throughout the 90s, and onwards till today. Brilliant beyond compare. Fun story, in brief, my mom's best friend worked at a radio station in the Boston area in the 80s/90s. It was at the top of a hill, and at the bottom of the hill was Steven Tyler's house. He and the rest of the band were regulars at the station, and she went to many a party at the Tyler household - she has amazing stories to tell.

The Making of Pump was my first inside look into a bands creative process. I wore that video out. Watching Tyler riff over what would become iconic lyrics, it changed a lot for me.

Me and the hubby feel in love over the toys in the attic album. No cd s back in the seventies but we did have 8 tracks for the car , man the 1970 s was some good ass classic music and Aerosmith is around but for the 21 st century my favorite is The Darkness and Greta Van. fleet. Love you Justin. Ps still married 40 years now

Only ask of Aerosmith is to re-emphasize the rock vs the ballads that seems to be the preference for the past few decades. More Mama Kin/Sick as a Dog type rock. Justin, love your podcast. My wife thinks I've lost my mind. :) She's right.

Absolutely gutted they cancelled their London show which would have been last week! Never seen them and now may never get the chance I feel :( Knowing they're playing in the US at the same time they were due to be over here is a bit of a kick too! Needed some of that Draw the Line goodness!!

I agree with you 100%! Steven Tyler is America's greatest export on vocal cords ever! Thanks for holding Aerosmith up! I have told people at parties lately, nobody appreciates how Aerosmith are all living and Still rocking and thriving and rocking our world and we are blessed to have them and we are blessed to have you to recognize such talent and be so humble and to uplift these people instead of tearing them down like all other jjournalists seem to want to do. I am a fan of yours. You are REFRESHING! love Lisa

Sometimes people are critical when people miss notes when singing live but I think the odd missed note adds to the charm and highlights that this is a real singer doing it for real. I far rather that than these manufactured groups that are jumping around but still I tune due to heavy auto tune and miming!

Dear Mr Hawkins today I had a weird enlightening revelation type moment.twas on planet rock,my go to radio station and they played an old song I hadn't heard for ages. Death on two legs by queen, they were a complete change to traditional rock and incredibly individual.hearing this song I thought... .this could easily be a darkness recording 👍😎 I can see parelells with your songwriting and recordings/production (please consider this a great compliment to you sir) and I can fully understand your great love for queen, love your channel ,you are a great entertainer in many ways🤟👍🎸
