Hey, fellow light player here! Love this video, hopefully stops other lights from throwing the game lol. Been sword light for 250 hours and wanted to give some extra tips. (Tips good for ranged and melee lights like myself) 1) With gateway, if defending a cashout, throw your first gateway a little past the area where enemy teams are most likely to attack from. This way, if they start pushing, you can drop your second gateway and flank them from behind. It creates a whole lot of confusion for that enemy team as they try to fight you and your teammates from different angles. 2) Use vanishing bomb to cover your teammates too! A lot of people forget that VB is an area of effect use, and not just limited to yourself. This is good when your teammate gets low on health and your healer isn't close enough, or if you don't have a healer on your team. 3) Like Ronin said in the video, Light has very high DPS. You can take advantage of this by finishing off already damaged enemies. For example, if a medium at 250 health takes a few hits of damage and drops to 190hp, your chances of winning that 1v1 skyrockets because you're faster and do more DPS even though that medium has more health than you do (Light has 150 health). It's good to target low health enemies with any class you use but light also has the fastest movement speed so chasing will always lead in you catching up to them. Just make sure to watch out for traps like mines. 4) DON'T GO FOR UNNCESSCARY 1v1s/Fights. If you're defending, defend the cashout, don't run off and try to kill that light 70 meters away just because he shot a few bullets at you. Objective is the key to winning games, not kills. 5) Play like you can die to 2 quick melees (1 QM is 45 damage). If you lose 2 bars of health, back off and play careful. If you lose 4 bars then run and wait to reheal. You need to be alive to be helpful! 👍 FOR SWORD LIGHTS 1) Practice Lunge > Quick Melee, A LOT. Fighting other lights (especially those with a brain) as a sword light is very dangerous, since the DPS is obviously very high, you have the least health, and they have a ranged advantage. Lunge > QM is a two-shot combo that kills any light. Being able to land this combo each time will you win you light duels the most efficiently. See 7:20 for an example of this. 2) Never run sword with cloaking device or grappling hook. Always evasive dash :)
@Rriivveerrr5 ай бұрын
Sword light with 350 hours, lunge to quick melee can be really hard to pull off consistently so don't count on it but always try. When fighting other lights sword is always at a disadvantage so try to use cover and then super dash on them when they push assuming you alr got a lunge. Also with sword having a portal on the cashout can be just as useful as using it to flank as you can very often get two or even 3 kills at the same time

Thanks mate! Swordie here. 1 lunge 1 quick melee for light, 1 lunge 1 slash 1 qm for medium, 2 lunges 2 qm for heavy! I love the subclass and it's my best weapon by far, since I can consistently get 10+ kills with it. I roll sonar with vanish, very useful for defending and attacking and allows you to play like a viable dagger. Third item I roll in is smoke grenade. It is not very good, but I find the reduction in accuracy really good. When I attack and throw it it reduces enemy vision and I can slip in (no health bars). When I defend and throw it on the point we're effectively invisible to anyone coming in. I'm not sure about the smoke bomb, but I don't think I'd take anything over it unless I'm trying to counter a shield heavy (I don't have to because I have a sword) or just want to toss frags against extra defensive players.

This guide is good, tho for the niche dagger players out there there is a few major tweaks I'd make to this for them: -Play so you can rotate around enemies that your team8s are engaging, but don't hyperextend or be entirely out of support range (and don't get pinched off from your team8s either) -Try to first use utility to chip damage enemies then let your team8s engage to be able to go out and help take the picks -NEVER stray away from easy running distance for cashout, unless a team8 is already there and another is getting into trouble nearby as you can 90% of the time stop a cashout steal fast -If you are the last alive, don't go for risky plays, as even a 2 v 1 can get you picked easily -If you can, try to eliminate targets such as M or H first, as they'll be easier for you to get then other classes and weapons if you pull it off -Info is crucial to both kills and survival, don't go in blindly and get surprised, you'll rarely win -If you do guard opponents statues make sure support isn't too far away -Try to avoid chaos as much as you can, as you will most likely end up killed either on purpose or by accident, try working your way around big battles if you can

@@ronin_fps to be fair cashout has a whole bunch of rng problems too, if you're set on defending your cashout you never know when a third (or a fourth) team appears to fight you until you can't handle the pressure anymore, the most reliable tactic rn is to camp and let others fight for your cashout and that's no fun at all for a fast paced game like this. Not to mention the matches where you just chill at your cashout with no enemies. I can definitely understand why they're reworking it for the ranked format

When i play light, i wanna be as helpful and reliable as possible to my teammates. These tips are very helpful, but i also like to play a supportive/disruptive role. Whether thats taking the lead in reviving downed teammates, which with high mobility makes Light support pretty underrated tbh. Or the other side of playing full defense on a cashout when you're the last alive, being able to pick up quick stuns or kills, being able to escape in most cases.

Another fellow light one trick, (200+hours) and I have some more tips if you prefer using the grappling hook. If you want any general tips, read danico's comment if you haven't done that first. Grapple is a really easy way to jump in, get a quick kill with a gun like the xp-54, and get out. The cooldown is shockingly low for this ability, and I feel it is incredibly underrated. This allows for a more somewhat ratty playstyle but can also become very useful to your team. 1) In gamemodes like terminal attack, using the gateway on offense is obviously a very powerful tool, but becomes even more useful with the grapple gun. being able to cross large portions of the map means your team moves as fast as you do. Make sure your teammates use these. if they simply won't, switch to a useful grenade if you don't already have one. 2) Light players are able to capitalize off those little moments where the enemy is distracted by larger pushes from medium and heavy players, getting heavy damage and kills which can be incredibly valuable in terminal attack. when the cloak will often leave you vulnerable after a kill, the grapple allows for a free escape if you know what you're doing. 3) If you are the light player in ranked that picks sniper, and sits on a roof until everyone is dead, you are hardly contributing to the fight. Although having ONE sniper on a map like seoul, the kills and damage you get from sitting on a roof is practically meaningless towards winning. often times your team is forced to fight a 3 or 4v5 and often ends up losing due to one less fighter. Personally I use the stun gun, vanish bomb, gateway, xp-54, and grapple. Stun allows for stopping last second steals on objectives. invaluable utility in my opinion, every team should have atleast 1 light with this equipped, along with gateway (on offense) 1 vanish bomb is usually all you need on attack, if you're in a wide open map and the enemy lights are using snipers. otherwise, use glitch grenade, frag, or gas. whatever you prefer. gateways allow for: quick rotates on sites for defense, entry on offense, and a quick escape if you're playing casually on bank it or quick cash. Gateway guide: when cashout returns, using gateway to transport cashboxes is very useful as you might've seen. If your team refuses to use these, there is also a way you can use these for personal use. leave one end of the gateway in a safe location. this can be used as a quick escape in a dangerous situation. for terminal attack: use these to carry your teammates silently to quickly rush an objective. for defense. place on side on one terminal, and when the attackers reach their desire terminal, place the other at the other terminal, connecting them, allowing teammates from other terminals to aid opposite terminals, and vice versa. out of all this advice, I cannot stress it enough how playing by yourself on a roof with a sniper on ATTACK is not contributing much of anything to the team. If you are this light player, learn to play with your teammates.

I play terminal attack mostly and I usually play recon. At the beginning I try to get to a good vantage point and ping people/ tracking dart them. Then I move in to flank the enemies using sonar when necessary to give teammates more info. I also run the bow (since it’s silent) and ping enemies while trying to get damage on them if I miss they generally won’t notice and if I hit then depending on their actions I keep damaging or I move out to get more info for my team. The biggest flaw is when I’m left as the last survivor. If it’s 1v1 or 1v2 I can generally get it but it takes a lot of time baiting people and maneuvering to get the right set up. So it’s hit and a lot of miss while I improve with the bow. (I would take the XP-54, but it gives away my position at a distance and causes me more trouble than helps and I really enjoy playing with the bow.) It’s a great strategy when I play with friends who can take advantage of my call outs and understand what I’m doing. But I’ve had several randoms get angry and send messages about “how I’m a light and my job is to kill things.” So the strat has some haters lol There is some good info here for improving my strat, I tend to stay in a place for a bit too long when I should be moving around more to get different vantage points and playing closer to the team, but I’m not getting consistent damage with the bow yet. Edit: I just wanted to add. Great video! It definitely gave some much needed pointers and even pointed out some flaws in my own play style even if I focus on terminal attack since it has been added over cash out.

Remember engage heavies with caution, they can easily one shot you depending on how smart they are Always play around ur heavy teammate and medium teammate. I do most of those tips you gave us, but ever since the cloak was heavily nerfed, I prefer to use the grapple for higher mobility. It also makes easier to steal vaults. I like to set the 1st portal 50-60m away (I know 70m is max, but to avoid the risk of losing the 1st portal, I give myself a few meters of space) and then I heist the vault by sending the 2nd one right below it. Then I quickly take the portal, grab the box and grapple away, so the enemy team who was opening the vault will lose me even if they take the portal to chase me. To delay the chase I like to throw a gas nade at portal 1 so it explodes on portal 2 (vault)

I was a top 500 light otp and was probably one of around 40 true light otps in season 2. Light can be played at nearly any elo but the amount of work required gives you much less payout unless you are drastically, drastically better than your opponent. In top 500 against HHM stacks you will lose. There is nothing you can do, no team you can play around if a good HHM stack does a coordinated pad into double rpg. There is no counterplay, and your own team is not mobile enough to stop it. And there really good HHMs will have one heavy hold shield as they jump so you cant even chunk them while pushing. Add dome shield and you have close to no time where you as a player can stop them. This never stop me from playing light, as I enjoyed the playstyle too much. Light will literally never be viable in (good) comp and high elo but the difficulty of balancing the class results it in being a good pubstomper class. If you lose a duel to a light its genuinely just a skill issue in either positioning or aim. I stopped playing the game once they nerfed light time and time again to the point where invis was pointless. Light is only good in TA because its a poke class in a game mode that the playerbase is not used to and where sustain is not allowed. Even then, nothing is stopping a heavy from holding a corner with an auto shotty that two taps a light. I still love light and Ill still play it when I come back to this game every once in a while, but Nexon killed it with the season 3 changes.

I always have played light like this, I really don’t understand how the other play style has developed because it just sucks as a strat and isn’t fun

Thank you, usually I get brand new lights that can't snipe for shit lol.

If you are just scouting with invisible why not just take vanishing bomb?
@ronin_fps5 ай бұрын
Vanish bomb has too low of uptime for the playstyle in this video, plus it takes up a valuable grenade slot

Great video! I would say it’s common sense, but many Light players (or most others too, actually) lack it. That being said, I have one thing to comment on: it depends on a context, but usually it’s not worth to spend a respawn coin for 10K cash, especially if it’s the first round - it’s regarding 3:20 tip №6. Moreover, you had enough time to recapture the cashout if you team wiped immediately.
@ronin_fps5 ай бұрын
Yeah, it’s basic stuff to someone like me as I’ve been playing fps games at fairly high levels for many years now but not everybody has that experience or is self aware of their gameplay so I thought I’d break the thought process down for some people 🙂 But as for the coins, I had soloQ teammates with very few comms and 9 times out of 10 your randoms will coin in, so I will usually play around that. But if we wiped, there’s no guarantee that we could take it in time as I don’t have synergy with randoms and don’t know what kind of plays they will make. But yeah those are all valid points if you have a full premade team
