Thanks for inviting me on to your channel, Ben. It was a pleasure. We came up with different adjectives but at the end of the day we are singing from the same hymn sheet (please excuse the mixed metaphors).

What does "preaching to the choir" mean? Is this an Idiom? It can't be directly translated into German. Does it mean "to have the same opinion" or something like that????? 🤔

The most straightforward lesson here is.. leave your comfort zone like wise sailors do, in order to get to achieve your 'stable instability' around self acknoledgement around english and, more generally talking, around any foreign languages' learning! Great talk, absolutely mind-broadening! Thanks a bunch to the both of you for all your astonishing contributes. To my mind, you perfectly nailed the whole discussion around the matter!

Regarding the comfort zone and making mistakes, I think the important role of a teacher is to recognize this kind of bravery and correct the student mistakes (of course in a kind and constructive way). One of the big damage that can be done to a learner is to gloss over mistakes, as it might root some bad habits. At least this is how I have developed some of my bad English patterns. Btw, I just realized: tenacious -> tenere, now I'm going to remember this adjective once for good! WRT subjunctive - we have it in English don't we, but it only manifests itself in the 3rd person singular: "I suggest that it be solved before we proceed further."

Thank you both for a really absorbing lesson. Your list of adjective is perfect. I'd also add that we should enjoy the process of learning all the time. I try to look for funny ways of learning English. It helps a lot! Speaking in English do helps me to change a little bit my personality. I used to be very timid and shy earlier. So it's also a kind of personal adventure which leads to developing new soft skills and keeping my mind sharp.

Hello Ben, thank you for such an inspirational clip! On a completely different topic, I recently came across the use of 'more healthy' in one of Cambridge English text books and still puzzled a bit. What I l have leaned is that when the adjective (for example, healthy) is modified by an adverb (more), 'more healthy' is correct. I am still confused this with the comparative form of the adjective. I would be grateful if you could make a video with this topic. Thank you very much for reading my comment. Your channel has been a great help for me to prepare Cambridge exam/IELTS!

Hi Ben, I'm really overwehlmed ☺️, that is one of your best videos. I have to admit I'm not a perfect student. I'm far away from beeing chatty, I'm shy and always afraid of beeing a pain in the ass when I ask too many questions. You both indicate that learning a language is a long journey, I totally agree and I would even go so far as to say that you learn throughout your live and that is the best in my opinion. I was really happy today because I watched my favourite series without subtitles for the first time and I understand nearly everything (I took your advice and celebrated it a little 🎉) Thanks for your effort to make learning English less complicated and for your remindings to be patient and having fun. Cheers Sabine

I am a long time learner of English, living in the English speaking country for 30+ years, and I agree with you; the teachers need to tell the truth. There are no shortcuts, such as 3,6, or 12 months to learn it. The English language is very complex, cumbersome, and difficult to master. It is no joke, and it will seriously take adults a lifetime to learn. Thank you for saying that and for other content, it is very useful. I need to add here that English is a beautiful language and knowing all said above it brings many wonderful feelings every time I learn something new. Good luck to you all in that journey.

Hi Ben !!! I really enjoyed your video and the way that you suport people who has dificcult to express themselves in an english conversation. Well, I need this help a lot. And I have a question about the verb chat and the expression chatting? This is use for more informal or ordinary situation? What is the difference between "chat" and "talk"? 😊

Hi Ben, I'd like to try one of your courses (to pass the C1 Cambridge exam). Do you suggest me the Essential Grammar Course or the Complete Advanced Course on your site?
@tothepointenglishwithben.

Hi Federico. It depends on your needs. The Complete C1 Advanced Preparation Course focuses on strategy and approach in order to get the best score possible whereas the Grammar Course focuses on grammar (of course 🙂). If you have no experience with the Cambridge English exams, I'd recommend the preparation course. (Sorry for the delay in replying)
