Similes are figures of speech that make comparisons between two things using the words "like" or "as" to indicate similarities between them. Native speakers often use them as a more interesting and emphatic alternative to "very". In this video, I share 20 of the most common English similes.

Hi! "As fresh as a daisy" is my favorite) Allow me to add "as sick as a dog", "as thin as a rack", "as hard as nails". Thank you for another original topic, Ben. Not lenthy at all, compared to the other trivial stuff we can stumble upon on the KZbin. Look forward to the next videos indeed.

Ben You may repeat this again and again ten times if you'd like. To me, that is the only way I can recall the words you teach.

Dear Ben, I reckon that " ... as wise as an owl ... " derives from the ancient Greek symbol of wisdom. Beeing the holy animal of Pallas Athene, the godess of wisdome (and the art of war), Athene herself and her Roman equivalent "Minerva" was quite often depicted as an owl. Great to watch your videos, thanks for your all of them!

"As stubborn as a mule" is quite famous similarity as you said about an owl one here in Ukrainian language. Our people is tend to be a huge obstacle 😂 I thought it is popular in English too, but perhaps I was wrong

Oh Man! Most of them are completely different from Italian 😅 As white as.....the snow\the milk Blind as ...a mole (the small mammal excavator) Timid as ...a rabbit Sometimes it could be dangerous, if in Italy you say to a lady that is "Like a hen" don't be surprised if she will be offended, it does NOT mean that "she takes great care of others" Yes!! "stubborn as a mule" is the same "testarda come un mulo", my description

Ben, Ben, Ben .... again what a great content just spoiled by speaking soooooo much. 20 common similes. Ok. So a 5 minutes video? 10 minutes perhaps? Noooo 23 minutes :-( You are a great teacher but would have way more success here by using a more youtube appropriate format. You can't help but speak as if you were in front of the class. You're not, this is online, you don't need to rephrase everything 5 times.

Thanks for your feedback, I'll take it on board. For me, 23 minutes is very little time to teach 20 similes. My objective is not more views and subscribers but for my viewers to remember the vocabulary I share in my videos. However, I'll try to be more concise and 'to the point' in the future. 🙂

@@tothepointenglishwithben. please do not abandon the "longer" content! I love the class kind of videos. You could try and maybe do a once-in-a-while video short and concise, maybe that would satisfy the algorithm? Your channel is a great break from all the overwhelming content on this platform, whilst still informative and easy to consume ❤
