Based off the movie it seems like those very wings act like a leash to god's will as the halo seems to fade after they're lost. The last thing you need while on a mission to protect someone is to be tethered to something that can yank, freeze, or even corrupt your goal even if it's for a second and cause you to stand aside while the deciding shot is being made.

OK, about the "Michael cutting his wings was a mistake"-part: I always thought that included the angel cutting his ties to heaven. Yes: he lost the ability to fly, but with the wings he wouldn't have had the the freedom to do so. I mean: you show literal shackles falling off seconds after losing his wings. Michael paid a price for his freedom.

I think a few mistakes may have been made in the logic of your own solutions on this one. First off, using their time to set up additional defenses. While yes, it seems like the best play at the time, it would ultimately sabotage you in the end. Playing so many of your best defenses up front leave you extra vulnerable after the initial attack. The angels are smart enough to set traps, which means they are smart enough to recognize them, and have many hours between strikes to consider counters. With no clue how long this ordeal will go on for, it would make more sense to only set what you can reasonably believe you'll need with some margin for error at a time. This leaves you with potential to change up the allocation of your very limited resources as new opportunities become available. Personally, I would've taken advantage of the growing number of abandoned cars during the day to park myself a much more effective barricade and roadblocks. Maybe allocate some of that fuel as well to turn them into a dangerous mine field. The second major error is suggesting that everyone stay to fight Gabriel at and overwhelming him with gunfire. While this would be worth the risk if he were your only obstacle, it's a terrible decision under the circumstances. Those bullets weren't embedding in his wings, meaning they were likely ricocheting. There's not much room for so many people to move around the diner at once, and they're not exactly all gun trained either. A hail of missed or ricocheted bullets leaves excessive risk of injuring one another and severely crippling anyone's chances of surviving a follow-up assault. Not to mention if one of those rounds were to bounce into the only fighter able to keep up with him. In that case, you'd never make it far enough to find out.

I love the ending of this movie. The group has one advantage in its corner that its members don't seem to fully fathom until the end; the very fact that humanity wasn't instantly wiped out means that God either isn't decided, or this is actually a stealth test of the angels. I thought of this, but when the story actually turned in that direction I was so pleasantly surprised. So often movies will just gloss over all logic and reason in favor of more explosions.

It's interesting how that film played with the mythical role of Michael. Michael is the Captain of the Heavenly Host, a warrior general of the angels. It's why in nearly every depiction of Michael he is seen as a knight or warrior, clad in armor and bearing a sword or spear. Gabriel is a messenger, a herald and speaker of God's will.

Because again, in the mythology...Michael is often depicted as one who intercedes on behalf of Man to defend and strike down the Serpent. It's why Michael is often shown in heraldry as a knight striking down a serpent...representing Satan. Again, the film plays with that interestingly. In the dire hour, Michael the Archangel (First among angels) comes in his full regalia and glory to protect mankind. I will also note, I'm not a Christian but I find their mythology and mysticism fascinating.

Note: those rifles would, at best, be firing .556 full metal jacket, while that is nothing to scoff at you can still acquire better firearms than that, for example: .50cal rifles and machine guns, 6 gauge shotguns with slugs, Elephant rifles. You can also try and get some military vehicles that would defiantly be able to go straight through those wings with 105mm APFSDS, 40mm grenade launchers with HEAT, 15cm and 20cm auto cannons, AGM's, the list goes on. Nuclear warheads is an extreme, last resort measure. You have plenty of other options and I didn't even get into aircraft or explosives either.

In the series, Michael was the flood sent from heaven to cull humanity, the ark was actually a bunker to hide the survivors from Michael. It was Gabriel that saved humanity by intervening, beating Michael n unconscious and leaving him to die. Michael was then saved by a boy who passed by despite knowing who he is. So he decided that it was a test from God and he failed because the boy showed mercy by saving him even when he had all the reasons and opportunity to do the opposite. And for that reason, Michael has been determined to protect humanity ever since. Gabriel at some point later was living on Earth in a human body. He had a son that would be David. After David slayed Goliath, he was destinated to become king but was then assassinated by the king of that time. Gabriel was furious, he killed the king, left for heaven and decided that human are treacherous and ungrateful for what he had done for them. And later in the series, it was revealed that God did not specifically ordered the angels to punish humanity, he only left behind an artifact that allowed them to do so. And Gabriel decided that it was God intention to exterminate humanity otherwise he wouldn't left them with the artifact. Michael on the other hand interpreted it as a test from God and pleaded Gabriel not to used the artifact with no success. And that's how it happened.

The one major thing I'd disagree with is the thought surrounding Michael's decision to remove his wings. It isn't explicitly said, but the thought seems to be that angels are commanded by God and generally have to obey orders and so the wings will hinder his mission to go Rogue. We also don't know what other restrictions angels face, so cutting off his wings would unshackle him in that regard. Though, of it would've been very helpful to have bulletproof wings which also allow you to fly. Also, 3 minutes to enact the Jumpstart labor plan? Some of us need longer than that to bust a nut. 😂

I think the wings were his tracker so to speak. He’s the leader so convincing some others. I’m sure at least ONE other angel would object. A big point is why rely on Guns? He’s an Angel, the Angel of power basically. Spawn uses guns to conserve energy, he doesn’t have that specific constraint. Especially given that his supposed weapon is a flaming sword that he has much more practice with and, considering they can block bullets, fire isn’t as easy to straight up block and would work for say combat. As for the locusts, it was a determined cloud. They would get in and later with closed vents meant they would have more to turn back from. That actually saved them. God has brutally killed even slight objections. Even if you had a perfect binder spanning billions of years, unlikely to convince. Michael would know this and likely tried already. Although if it was an angel test, stupid but tracks like the Forbidden Fruit That said, God is convinced later, so it’s clear Michael just sucked at his defense. Clearly it’s possible and he just didn’t do good enough. Cutting the wings may not work. It’s like capturing someone and taking off their uniform. Only if he actively changed would it likely work as God would sense the loyalty. They are still Angels, just without wings.

driving through the locust swarm would've been bad. with that many, enough would've got sucked onto the engine air filter and stalled the car. then they'd be stuck in the middle of that mess. remember to always pack a spare electric car when going to confront a giant swarm of normally tiny stuff. like volcanic ash clouds. that can clog an air filter too. you could probably take the filter off and make sure you keep the car floored the entire time to force as much of that shit through and out the engine as fast as possible and that hopefully if it does stall, the momentum will be enough to just barely get you to coast out of the mess, but then instead of the car simply being stalled like with a clogged air filter, it'd just be dead cuz the engine is all blocked and seized up. so if you don't have an electric car, having spare air filters and a bug suit would be the best to get through it. when the car stalls, get out and replace the air filter, then go again. though if god is controlling the locusts intelligently, he could have them swarm into the air intake in the brief time you have the filter off, or, with just so many there, they might just fly into it on their own. so really really. your best bet is to entirely avoid driving through it at all, except with electric car.
