Contractor here. Most houses have two breakers. A main breaker outside, and a series of breakers inside called a breaker box. You'd need to cut the lock off a main breaker, which can either have the electric company's lock, which a small pair of wire snips can cut right through, or your own padlock, which would need heavy duty bolt cutters. My guess would be most people in movies never worked on their own main box, so the tiny lil' lock is gonna get cut and power gets shut off. Badaboom!

The villain had a serious problem with arrogance and underestimating her, but he was pretty smart. I don’t think I’d have thought of turning off the breaker or checking for alternate WiFi. Then again, I’m not a serial killer. No, that isn’t something a serial killer would say. Edit: due to recent philosophical wonderings, an adrenaline addiction, and the realization it’s probably not as hard to get away with it as people think, I may or may not be a serial killer at some point in the future.

Thankfully the police almost always show up to your location if you dial 911 andsay nothing, since they dont know if you are in danger. If you need to, bang the counter near the phone or do your best to scream (Deaf/mute people can still make auditory noises, they are just unable to form those noises into sentences for others to interpret.) Hell, even just calling 911 and throwing the phone to make a loud bang would make police concerned enough to trace the call and bring help.

They should make special phone's for deaf people where there's live subtitles and if you call someone you can type In calls and a robotic voice reads it out and for emergency calls they can type a number between 1 and 9 each number is a certain scenario like 1 is a robbery or 5 a kidnapping etc and when you first turn on the phone it gives you a little tutorial and for alarms and when you get called U have a device that you put on your ear or somewhere else that vibrates

This a philosophy me and my favorite KZbinr, The Librarian share. Horror can easily and readily be good if two basic premises are used. 1. The protagonists are reasonable people forced into bad choices. 2. The protagonists are blindsided by the threat with no reasonable or fair way to anticipate the danger. Number 1 works on the premise that if number 2 isn't present, panic can be overridden and reasonable decisions are on the table, but circumstances restrict the characters to only bad options. Number 2 works on the premise that number one isn't present. Therefore, panic and fear will override reason. A good example of number 1 is Hush and a good example of number 2 is the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

My sisters dog is just a people lover that only barked to alert my dog someone was coming when he was getting hard of hearing and old. Agreed, cats are not useless! Once, a stray cat broke into my house overnight and hid. One of my cats came and specifically woke me up, asked me to follow her, and then led me to the exact spot the stray cat was hiding. She told me all this through a series of different meow pitches/vocalizations, body language and eye contact. Just in the same way as a police dog works with their handler. My cats and I have a very strong bond, to the point that we're practically telepathic these days. Through just a fraction of a second's worth of eye contact or body language, we can easily convey emotions and basic ideas to each other, even if we can't communicate complicated human concepts. A cat will never sleep somewhere it feels threatened. So if the cat is relaxed, it's probably safe. Between my own senses (I'm hypersensitive to sound anyway) and the finely-honed hunting senses of my feral-born tomcat... it's highly unlikely that someone could sneak up on us. Also my cat has no qualms about going straight for the face, and trust me he can move faster than it is possible for a human to react :') Being forewarned as early as possible is one of the best defenses because the earlier you are alerted, the more options you have. Don't count out the lil furry motion detectors! :P There are plenty of big dogs I've met who just roll over for a belly rub when a stranger turns up, now that's a false sense of security if ever I saw one aha.

I don´t have a problem with the fact that she lives alone in the forest, but if I would live there alone I would secure my house more. Not just because someone might come to kill me, but because it´s an easy target for burglars at large. I don´t know if it´s just because i live and grew up in a german city, but first of I would build my house out of stone instead of wood even without the worry of someone breaking in. It´s way harder to break through wood and drywall, than through 20cm of brickwalls. Also you can´t realy set it on fire from the outside or at least not as easy as wood. I´d also buld metal shutters infront of every window in the house and maybe some barres at the ground floor to make it harder to leverage them open.

Instead of pulling the bolt out in 8:40, I would have kept it in. When you get stabbed by a knife it does damage to you but it also acts like a plug and doesn’t allow any blood to escape. The same rule applies for bolts or arrows. Pulling it out was a mistake since it would no longer stop blood from escaping. I also would have cut out the part that was sticking out because it might get caught on something and slow you down.

THANK YOU! I HATE when they do this in movies, because it teaches people to do that in real life. There's a special type of bandage called a Ring Bandage where you make a donut of rolled bandage that goes around the outside of the protruding object and then this is compressed down by bandaging around the limb either side. If she had cut off the rest of the bolt, as you suggested, this would have been the perfect method. Too bad if that shot had hit a major artery (and there are many in your thigh) because as soon as she pulled it out, yes, the plug would be gone and she would have bled to death for her stupidity.

Bolts and arrows are very blunt more so than people actually think. They penetrate good because they fly so fast and they are heavy. So if they don't have special arrow heads, and those in the movie were normal, they won't penetrate by a melee attack. You have more chances to bust one in 2 than making it go through. They penetrate when they fly because the spinning maintains their straight trajectory, forcing the kinetic energy in a single point, which is the arrow head.

The thing about this is that being deaf and mute is a lot more serious than it seems on paper. Hearing means it is near impossible to locate someone without seeing them (which is hard in the darkness), and being mute means you cant really communicate well. This woman is a fucking beast to have survived.

Unfortunately if this was RL, a deaf and mute person would be dead in minutes and it was only the movie killer mentality that made this showdown even possible. It sounds callous, but it's called a disabilty for a good reason. Hollywood needs to stop portraying people who have lost a sense as being just as capable as everyone else: we evolved with five aspects because it's what is required for survival. Anything less makes them vulnerable and while some people can compensate to be ALMOST as capable as a full functioning person, they are still always missing vital input. This is why there are so many services, devices and techniques designed to help them survive, because the cold hard truth is if they were able to do things just as well then no one would need to treat them differently... She could easily be taken out just by crossing the road and being mowed down by a speeding driver, simply because she didn't look around her fast enough. Not trying to be cruel here, I am simply trying to illustrate how toxic and dangerous this depiction of disabled people doing this kind of thing is.

Can you just talk about how badass the neighbor was? He analyzed the killer so quickly. He really made a smart move there. If I were him, I would have asked the guy his badge and would immediately being killed for being too suspicious over the "cop".

I remember watching this movie while breaking it down with my friends. This was probably one of my favorite movies, just because the characters were actually intelligent, and it was fairly realistic.

Deaf mute aside, when her neighbor got killed she must be temporarily blind because despite the darkness outside, her neighbor was well lit and when she was turning around she definitely should've seen her.
