So refreshing to find the “get gud” video amongst the how to cheese tutorials. These are always my favorite videos to look for in these souls games just because the victory is so much more sweet knowing you beat them off of their own mistakes. That being said, I’m still stuck on pontiff.

So I was thinking on making guides like this for all the bosses and ended up finding out that someone has already done it for one boss, good job, keep up the good work, pontiff was also the most problematic for me during the whole game and, after the no hit practice, I can say it is a completelly fair and well designed boss, the only exception being in the second phase against the pontiff and his shadow clone, when you get close to punish the clone, the camera can make things really chaotic very quickly, other than that there is no artificial difficulty in the boss really, great boss.

Thank you and yeah i really like pontiff's design, good amount of mixups between combos and between moves, swift attacks with fairly subtle tells, honest moves, delayed moves, deliberate moves, defensive moves, projectiles, etc. My guy has it all and yeah the camera can be a problem at times.

i really recomend learning how to parry his first attack since when you equip Lioyd sword ring ( i forgot the name) you do more dmg with full HP and when you parry him strike critical hit and then when he will fall on the ground get behind him and hit him atleast 4 times with buffed weapon and you should make half of his HP cease in seconds

Playing this game for the first time rn and damn this guy was fucking me up for like an hour where I only got to 2nd phase once. After that I watched your guide, tried again the next day and magically I was getting 2nd phase pretty much everytime. Still took about another hour to finally beat him lol, I think the 2nd phase is pretty bullshit because there was absolutely no chance for me to stay aggressive they just start comboing and the camera lock flies off and shit like that, definitely didn't git gud at phase 2. I also didn't quite have the damage to kill the clone right away when he spawned so I had to equip pontiff's right eye and the ring that boost damage when HP is full to get him into 1-2 hit range and then just back off and wait for some punishable attack. Overall I enjoyed the fight and first phase was the best boss in the game so far. Second phase felt like a sucker punch especially since he can summon the clone multiple times, at the start he feels like an honorable man with the slow and respectful walk towards you but no, he needs summons when shit hits the fan lmao.

Yeah he has a lot XD, he's one of those bosses that covers a lot of your options but parry/riposte with a +9 weapon destroys him. Doesnt have too much health compared to other bosses.

Best thing I can recommend is just getting the hang of parrying. It's genuinely a hard boss if you try it without parrying, he attacks pretty quickly so dodging and getting in hits when he leaves (short) openings for you to attack is really tricky (though very much possible as can be seen in this video). If you don't immediately take advantage of these openings, he'll continue to spam attacks without you getting any hits in. However if you manage to get parrying right this is honestly one of the easiest bosses in the game, 3-5 parries should kill him and even on his second phase it's very much possible to kill him before the clone shows up. I beat him today for the first time after an hour or so just because I didn't have the confidence to try and parry his attacks at first, but once I did it was a piece of cake.

I wanted to play it because they said the boss fights were better in ds3 than Elden ring not seeing it though fr.

Pontiff was really easy for me i just parried him 3times and got his health down to 20-30% After that it was just a couple of hits and then hes dead The trick for his clone is to kill it as he's summoning it Cuz two of them at once can be tricky

Instead of simply having fun with the game you're more concerned about your "performance" and how many deaths it took you to beat this or that boss, as if that's what the game is all about. Any boss in any video game becomes easy once you learn their moveset, so why come here and tell everyone the obvious... wait, let me guess, you beat Pontiff in your first try, you figured out when you can or can't parry him, the timing of all his moves in one single attempt, because he was that easy, and this game is made for casuals, and you're a genius, and the developers are trash, am I right...

@@mawie8116 ei bruv, I've always had my ass kicked by most of the bosses and had to try constantly to beat them. As have a lot of people. I don't have the skills to even be arrogant. The countless attempts at beating Dancer, Two Princes, Soul of Cinder and especially Gael don't allow that. And I didn't beat Pontiff on my first try. It's just that I've seen in a difficulty ranking thread in reddit that most of the people were ranking pontiff on top. Whereas I had a very easy time with him. That's why I mentioned it. I don't want to brag or whatever. Wonder what ticked u off. By chance if you're having a hard time with him, really try parrying him. People talked about how he is really incessant about his attacks and gives you little breathing room. I didn't experience that. The reason I think is, he didn't get to do his attacks cuz I got most of his health down with a parry. Then his clone comes, I talked about that. And it's all really easy with a Caestus. It's how Hob or Squilla(can't remember which) did it in his no hit run. I saw how quickly he did it. I then tried it and it worked almost miraculously for me. I really have no clue how you see this as showing off. Since almost no one really talks about it, I thought I should say it. And you said that one will eventually learn a boss's moveset if one attempts enough times. If you want to learn his moveset or whatever, then you can do that. I'm just saying how I beat him really easily and you can try that. And I'm not even bragging about being able to parry. Cuz I just was playing Gwyn a couple days ago, and it took me upwards of 20 tries to parry him. Even on my fourth run. But in DS3, they've made it really easy w Caestus and such. And I also think his attacks have a big windup(idk what it's called). What I mean to say is you know when he's going to attack so it's easier to parry. If even after all this, you're not convinced that my intentions are nothing but to help, I really cant do anything about it.
