I really liked the beginning of this movie. The opening was cool, even the premise and initial reality transfer was acceptable. But then it got weird with the mind control stuff and the aurora lights somehow being Waters because he died violently (but none of the teens who died violently why????). It was a really bad wrap up to what could have been an entertaining holiday horror movie. That has nothing to do with surviving the killer, but I don't think you really have to think too hard to survive him since as both Waters and the dad he was a bumbling moron who got beat up by unprepared children repeatedly. The only way you could fail this one is if the magical aurora just further deus exed itself and caught you in a groundhog day loop until Waters won

They had the setup of Henry being reputable and his brother being the inept police sheriff, which was why he was getting away with everything. The other shit wasn't necessary. Technically those were love and adventures but the ones I'd rather not have. I know, a fat chance it's a coincidence, but still... I'm assuming that Waters may have helped his brother attain his position as Sheriff for exactly that reason, because he'd be willing to shut down any investigation into the murders. Anyone with any amount of exposure to one of the Dick Wolf shows currently on TV right now (and there's quite a few of them) knows that's not how that works and after a bit federal agents would be sending both Waters and his brother Buck upriver for what they're doing, but you can tell they at least tried to put some thought into it. Kind of. A little. Somewhat.
