You know, everyone would’ve survived (or at least there would’ve been a much higher rate of survival) if everyone just relied on the buddy system. No one goes alone, at least two people per group, and if they get really desperate, they can all lock down in a single room and have each other’s backs That way they can either try fighting the demon altogether if it tries breaking in or if they want to be selfish and make a break for it they’ll have strength in numbers. That way, regardless if you want to be a selfless family member or a selfish piece of garbage you’ll have a higher chance of surviving as long as you stay in the pack for as long as possible. Going off on your own is just the easiest way to let the demon pick you off one by one
