The weird part is, this was a choice from the people adapting it to film. Stephen king never wrote that ending to the book "no spoilers, just not even close to the same ending"

I will forever remember this movie solely because of how my dad reacted. He knew what was coming, and he knew i was going to cry, but i was outright sobbing, and he pulled me close and just held me until i was okay. That's one of the only times i can remember him doing anything like that.

One thing I like is how Stephen King preferred the movie's ending to the ending he wrote in the book they just kind of drive off in the mist until they run out of gas and I agree with him the movie's ending is definitely better becuase as far as we know he never planned to make a sequel.

I don't know, I prefer the book ending. [SPOILER] At least he lets some hope on the table. I don't remember they running out of gas in the book, just driving while on the radio they can hear only two words: "Connecticut" and "Hope".

I liked the book better. Mainly because i feel like the military coming in right at the end to "save the day" felt really stupid to me. Like, in the book its imploed that the world is just the mist now, a true apocalypse. But then the movie is just like "nah, the military that is implied to have caused this problem is here with tanks and flamethrowers to save the day, no apocalypse". Like, kill all the characters or don't, the romeo and juliet tragedy they went for was just stupidly cheesy

3:37 NO NO No, you don’t get underneath furniture during an earthquake! The duck and cover method is 3x more likely to result in you getting crushed by the roof falling on the furniture and breaking it on top of you!!!! The proper earthquake method as laid out by emergency personnel in CA(earthquake central in the US) is the ‘triangle of life’ method, where you hunker down NEXT to sturdy pieces of furniture or other objects that aren’t going to compress much if they collapse(such as stacked newspaper). When a roof caves in, the triangular space between the sturdy object, the fallen roof, and the floor is a hollow space where you won’t get crushed and will have more air while awaiting rescue.

For the ending David should’ve checked every house for supplies (all of them can’t be filled with spider monsters), start looking for other vehicles to ride in. Anything else except give up and start shooting.

I always found the ending to be so absurdly cynical and dark that it swung right back into feeling like a funny parody to me. My brain just automatically adds "wub, wub, wuuuooab" noises and a "to be continued..." stillframe the moment he sees those military trucks. Still one of my favorite movies of all time though. Encapsulates the feeling of forgetting that the steam sale is due and buying a fullprice title a day prior. Also, we need to turn on more floodlights, 10/10.

This is such a classic, I'm so glad you finally covered it. I recently traumatized my entire family by showing it to them. The ending is one of the main reasons I think I'd try my best to hold out in an apocalyptic scenario like this.
