Honestly, DJ was doing pretty well, up until he fumbled the double tap. He made Parker aware of the intruder without immediately giving away their position, held off the intruder long enough that Parker and Miri could've gotten away had the tires not been fucked, he held his own in a fight against somebody with a knife while he had nothing, and even after fumbling the double tap he was basically out the door but then accidentally closed the door on himself. I'd say DJ was MVP of this movie.

The movies included the characters family who were white and there was no hint at being adopted and there was no discussion of interracial dating. And hallmark didnt have black/hispanic/etc people as lead characters until years later.
