Thing is when the daughter offered the water to the elderly people, she didn't think they would take the water and keep it. You can see the expression on her face and she probably felt she couldn't ask for it back. In a survival situation, this is foolish to do since let's be real being elderly they are much closer to death than anyone else was in the group being decently fit. Daughter again was partly at fault because she was being picky about food, so Father was going to get her the yams, which wound up blasting him sky high. I agree they should have looked around since the signs while covered some of it was sticking out and that death could have been avoided. Had they observed the surroundings before going on the bathroom break, they would have seen the dead animals around the area. Also in that situation I don't think its that smart to go to far from the group since its been shown you got to be careful of the environment as well as people. For the Mom, I am not sure that would have worked since she if I remember correctly fairly recently had the surgery and she was still recovering and needed her fanny pack. It was also suggested she hasn't been able to charge her device since the cult place and with all that ash hanging in the air, she couldn't have done it with the solar option. I think she was running out of time with the battery power, and made the choice as the strongest swimmer to save her children and the others.
@isyahtajul3 жыл бұрын
Your last paragraph is the saddest. I never thought about battery life of the mom's device. It may be true that the mom knows that she's running out of time, that's why she choose to sacrifice herself to save the kids.

@Orangecatenergy Жыл бұрын
I think she wasn't just "picky" about the food. She's not vegetarian, she eats meat curry in Shan city. She was probably reminded by her friends who were crushed and had their organs and blood spilled everywhere when the earthquake just hit, and couldn't eat something that reminded her of it. She wanted to show herself that she isn't egoistic (after feeling like she left her friends to die since she only went back for her phone) and Gave the elderly couple some water. She keeps blaming herself for everyone who has died, so it's no wonder why she acts selfless and doesn't even bring up her cut leg... Trauma, man.

Since Japan is volcanic they tend to have hydrogen sulfide pockets like that. In Dr. Stone it was a plot point
@christopherflores54053 жыл бұрын
@@sadhanaroy1110 true, it could have been carbon dioxide from vulcanic activity, accumulated in that ditch they were going down. Or maybe carbon monoxide. I haven't watched this show yet so i don't know much specifics in the scene but hydrogen sulfide is the first to come in mind for me even though it should have a smell similar to that of a rotting egg.
@christopherflores54053 жыл бұрын
@@buchabra2 agreed. Volcanoes aren't really a big source of methane gas so i doubt the methane theory in the vid considering the location was right around a volcano. Plus, methane gas is lighter than air afaik. Not sure, i'm just a guy on the internet. But with that being said, if methane is lighter than air it would rise up and spread thin and that would mean it wouldn't accumulate in high enough concentrations to kill a person. Methane is relatively non-toxic and mainly kills via asphyxiation. On the other hand, hydrogen sulfide could put a person in a coma or cause instant death. It's a heavier gas than air so it would naturally accumulate downhill.

26:00 - That is actually a dangerous myth, that breathily deeply in and out before diving gives you more oxygen. That isn’t quite correct, and it only seems that way because the “suffocating” feeling we get is our brains monitoring higher carbon dioxide, NOT lower oxygen. The deep breathing blows off more C02, which delays the sensation of suffocating, but it provide little to no extra oxygen reserve - meaning you can feel better before suffocating/losing consciousness, instead of correctly realizing you are in trouble if you don’t get air immediately.
@JohnWick033 жыл бұрын

@@JohnWick03 lmao they literally said it's a dangerous myth, doing that would be a totally bad idea
@kiram.36192 жыл бұрын
@@visiblyhuman2660 They also explained that the deep breathing doesn't change anything but how you feel. This means it's still a good idea before an unavoidable dive. Getting stressed raises the heartbeat, which makes the body consume more oxygen. Therefore feeling pressured through a feeling of incoming suffocation would be bad. The reason the original commenter called it a dangerous myth, is because in normal day to day life, it's obviously bad not to notice danger.
@visiblyhuman26602 жыл бұрын
@@kiram.3619 still, you even proved my point further. If the mother had used that, she may have take a longer time to idk what was that release the thing and may have drowned in the process because she couldn't have known how much air time she has left
@kiram.36192 жыл бұрын
@@visiblyhuman2660 You see what you want to see. It's just as possible that the mom would have succeeded faster, if she had a calmer approach. Or would have just had more time due to not being stressed out so much from the beginning. But more than those, it's not like she wanted to leisurely swim around or had any reason to do more because she thinks she has more air. The plan doesn't change depending on how much air she has: Untie the boat -> get up. She went up immediately after untying the boat. And I think the narrator mentions that she's a professional swimmer or diver and even injured (heart thingy), so she knows she needs to be as fast as possible & how dangerous the water is.

What I fear and hate most about this scenario (Japan sinking) is how plausible and realistic it is in the real world. Due to oceans and high tides rising and island nations being vulnerable. It would definitely be a possibility in the future. Also, unlike other past, present, or future problems Japan had or will face. They won't be able to prevent the Islands from sinking, unlike with other problems where they already have an answer. The only good thing I can think of about this is I might be old and dead before this even happens and I won't have to see and comprehend the tragedy of Japan sinking and Japanese people dying. I won't have to shed tears of sorrow for beloved Japan when I'm already gone by that time. Disclaimer: I'm not Japanese, I'm just a Foreign Asian who cares a lot about my cousin/sister country.

This show had absolutely no chill. I couldn’t even get emotional watching it as I would have been numb by the end. Great show, but it was definitely a one time watch for me.

Why they left the paramotor: 1. It was low on fuel 2. It was too heavy to carry around 3. It was not useful enough to them 4. Wasn’t worth carrying if someone could steal it.

Same and also toward the end of the series to see "oh we did find that computer that tell us Japan will resurface, let's put that in a USB stick" The cult camp was not needed I was more interested how they will get out of there alive but the first 5 episode was really good after that, the anime started to go downhill

Agreed. If this had taken place somewhere like South Korea that is known for having cults all over the place that would have made sense. Or if they were a lot smaller and less...industrious. the only way I could see it working would be if they had established its presence before the quake, showing they're small but present, and how the disaster bolstered their numbers...

Japan is REALLY afraid they're gonna sink, apparently. If I had a nickel for every time I came across a 'Japan is sinking' catastrophe story, I'd have 3 nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened 3 times when I wasn't even looking for it. Four, if you count the remake of Survival. Five, if you count Survival: Another Story. Considering that the one that isn't a part of the Survival line or Japan Sinks is actually a memoir of that deadly earthquake/tsunami combo a few decades back, I suppose the fear is valid.

It is heavily debated whether Kite survived or not, he is seen in the crowd when Muto became a world class athlete. Some theorize this is just a hologram created by the geologist guy, but as far as I am aware it hasn't been confirmed or denied as of yet. I personally would be happier if Kite survived.
@sexy_seal Жыл бұрын
I mean it's highly likely that he did, because there's no reason for the geologist guy to make a hologram of kite there

"I was born lucky" like seriously 1. Having a paraglider when it started 2. Being knowledgeable in earthquakes enough to know what to do 3. Noticing Japan was tilted 4. Being hot 5. Having medical knowledge 6. Having a phone with infinite battery??? 7. Finding a tank??? 8. Having the knowledge to access high security information in a matter of seconds 9. Having the strength to carry a full grown man and an oxegen tank while swimming 10. Finding his air balloon 11. The helicopter being near enough to get his signal 12. Surviving
