I've been working in Video Production for 12 years and feel like I'm doing some of my best work, but I'm looking to the future and wondering what direction to go. I've been diving headfirst into business and leadership books for the last two years. I like that you included the "tests". This is some of the most realistic advice I’ve come across for preparing to take on the role of CD. No nonsense, straight forward and poignant. Exactly what I was looking for - I’d love to see all of these 9 skills broken down into more detail like you mentioned, with a bit more insight into the specifics of how you approach each. Also, at about 20mins you rattled off a bunch of awesome focus points around creating the right environment for creative work to happen effectively, I would be very interested to hear your thoughts / specific examples /ideas on how to nail down and develop all of those pieces individually and collectively as well. OMG, the retention strategy... horrible. I've worked under Sr Designers that had horrible design skills, but they got promoted because they made the most noise and they were buddy buddy with upper management.
