I think it's absurd that you can't invest in private equity simply because you don't have enough money. They make it unnecessarily difficult to qualify as an accredited investor unless you're already wealthy. It's frustrating and unfair. Meanwhile, anyone can walk into a casino and lose their entire life savings in a matter of minutes without any restrictions. It feels like the system is designed to make it harder for people with limited resources to grow their wealth. As adults, we should have the freedom to decide how to use our own money. We’re not children, and this level of control is unreasonable.

I agree 100%. In the example from the video, if you're an accredited investor, you earn a higher interest yield. But if you're not accredited, you can still invest-just at a lower yield. So, what's the point of this distinction? Either way, you're taking on risk. In fact, you take on even more risk because you're earning less, which means you have to stay invested longer to reach your financial goals. This system makes no sense and feels completely ridiculous.

As someone who worked in the Financial Broker Dealer world, you are basically leading individuals towards a legal struggle path in hopes to loop through some policies. The Internet Advisor that the SEC mentions in registration is talking about Robo Advisors. The goal of putting numbers into a dashboard or questionnaire and it generates models and automatically invests on behalf. You putting some models on a website with no actual clients or AUM building from clients isn't what the SEC is referencing. Plus most states do not require Registration unless you have more than 6 clients you are advising in your state. Meaning starting off you wouldn't need to register with either State or SEC. The only benefit of SEC registration is being able to get clients from all across the US without constantly having to register for that state once your clientele approaches 6 clients.

I'm actually taking Series 65 to be a crypto wealth advisor and start my own practice. Have had a few consultations with legal firms to help me get everything legalized and setup (they quoted me around $10K to do it all w/ registrations, contract disclaimers). Good to know about the 6-clients per state rule. I would be remote based and hold no physical offices in US. Still want to take the exam to give legitimacy & build trust w/ potential clients. The general 'Accredited Investor' requirement reminds me of the saying "You have to have money to make money." As I'm not quite there yet financially, your insight that it's possible with study time and a modest 'down-payment' is much appreciated ! Wow, I'm glad I watched this. I was about to start studying for the Series 65 for this exact reason. Thanks! I didn't really have enough assets saved up anyways to have adequate position sizing for good risk management. I'd have to go all in on a couple deals vs split between 20 - 100 (to limit risk of loss from specific event or factor.) I'll focus on cashflowing asset from trading and then use the time building to study and learn. When I'm ready i'll have the knowledge and connections to start investing. I'm close enough that with a bit more cashflow I can get status the normal way. I'll talk to my attorneys about this too. I have a deal for easy LLC formation through them. But I don't really want clients so it may not be worth it unless there was a turnkey process I could buy.

I’m life & health, P&C, and series 6 and 63 qualified. After doing all this I thought that I wanted to get the 65 and become a CFP. Now that I’m into the process, I realize I can be a financial coach without the 65 and CFP. I don’t think the FINRA headache is worth it.

Oh God, so many requirements. There should be further amendments to getting the accredited investor status. For example, we should be able to get it by just taking the series 65 exam and passing it without getting licensed. I say us average joe investors all go and mail our state representatives to have this fixed, it adds so much unnecessary bureaucracy.

I don’t feel confident answering this with any guarantee, but I think the LLC would be the “investment firm” and you would become the RIA associated with it. The internet advisor just seems to be the easiest way to check that box with an LLC. (The way I understand it)

Thanks for the information in this video. I am also here because of the change with terms at Celsius (11:21)...as I see others are based on the Comments section. On the Celsius Accredited Investor page used to submit qualifications, there is a drop-down option for "License Certificate". In the FAQ (#4) it states "You can provide a valid License certificate". Which makes me think that a Series 65 license alone will suffice. I haven't confirmed with Celsius but maybe the other items you mentioned in the video (starting an IA firm, web site, state registration) culminating in the U4 form are superfluous to the Celsius requirements? I attempted to use their ChatBot but that was not helpful. I then attempted to send an email via the Celsius Contact Page but the Captcha module was not working. I will send an email once I find the contact address. Hopefully, the Celsius requirements are not as involved as the U4 requirements!

Wow, the government really likes screwing over the small guy. What happened to the “free market?” It’s not so free when you have to jump through all these hoops or make above average income just to have a chance at winning in the investment game. Can someone honestly tell me why you can’t invest in private companies without being accredited? What assurance does that really give other than they have a lot of money and financial knowledge? What does that matter if you already spent money buying the shares?? It’s not like you then have to pay more once you buy something, so why do they need to know if you have a secure income or have financial expertise? Someone plz help me wrap my head around this, cuz right now it just seems like a blatant way for the government to keep the rich rich and the poor poor.

I have gone back and forth on deciding if I want to become an accredited investor. I did not know the part about needing to create a website which is not a big deal but it essentially would never be used other to meet an SEC requirement. You did says something that interested me. I am digital asset investor and have a LLC in good standing, if one would just sit back and wait for ones investments to pan out to meet the financial requirements then one would qualify to be and accredited investor by default....correct?

Correct - you actually wouldn't need the LLC at all to qualify as an accredited investor if you meet the financial requirements. Digital assets can count towards that number. So theoretically, if you have over $1M in crypto, you have everything you need to qualify. At that point, you'd just need to go through a verification process to show that you are indeed qualified. So that's my plan too - just keep investing, and eventually I'll get there 😂

Also here because of Celsius, I want a way to earn a lot more than those petty returns on traditional bank savings accounts, doing it with USD-coins on Celsius is looking like a great option since they are fairly liquid (I would think). TBH I think it will be worth it because Celsius is becoming a way more trustworthy and reliable company in my eyes, and DeFi is still too young for my risk level. Plus think of all the other opportunities being an accredited investor affords
