Nice video and a good plan to have. Must say I am envious of your 100 acres. My wife and I do what we can on a quarter of an acre here in New Zealand. We've come to realize that at my age - 65 this year - taking on a large acreage is probably beyond us. I have 2 sons but one lives 4 hours drive away and the other lives in the USA so we wouldn't be likely to get much help on the homestead from them. We grow 90% of our yearly needs for fruit, vegetables and nuts - having over 30 fruit or nut trees and lots of raised bed gardens. We used to have chickens, back when our sons were young boys, but we are considering getting a few again soon. I did suggest rabbits as a meat source, but the wife is dead against it. That's impressive results from a quarter acre. I sometimes wonder if I'm too old at 48 to be starting this endeavor, but even if it never becomes a profitable farm, I'll be happy being in nature with my animals. Also, it should offset the rising food prices we are all seeing. Good luck to you and get those chickens, I mean chooks lol.

Personally I own a lot of homes and land id never sell any of them . I started with nothing and its for my children and grand children . If you need help finding a parcel my advise buy cheap junk , hold it . Buy more after you saved more money , hold em then sell 4 years or more later. Then use the money to buy what you really want.

I raised Boar Goats for meat. I also had French Alpine, Nubian and Oberhasli dairy goats. I made butter and fresh raw milk for my family was worth the milking labor. But dairy goats need alfalfa and can't eat browse or the milk will taste horrible. I don't have farm animals anymore. I used horse fence for my goats. If there is a way, they will get themselves into trouble. Also, a Great Pyrenees livestock guard dog.

@@TheHandsOnChannel My husband said it was strong, like deer. The strip down the back along the spine is premium and tender. All bucks stink and urinate on their beards to turn on the does. With that smell in my head, I couldn't be objective about the taste of their meat. It all depends on how you cook/prepare it. I imagine it can be made delicious.

I really commend for wanting to as self sufficient as possible . But as a previous owner of goats I would advice you to either do some other thinking outside of the box or talk to someone who raises goats . If you think you are going to make a penny on raising goats , good luck brother . Just my advice and good luck.

Do you have meat goats or dairy? From what I'm told goat meat is a big seller among the ethnic communities. Even if I cant make it profitable they will be great for cleaning out my forest and putting meat on the table. Do you butcher and eat goat meat? Some say it's better than beef, what do you think? @@TheHandsOnChannel I had meat goats . Yea you can sell the goats for meat and sell to 4-H kids ( if ) they are registered and good quality breed , but nobody is interested in everyday common goats . As far as getting them to clean out the woods ,yes they will do that , but you better have lots of time and money if you plan on raising them . Goats have lots and lots of problems , next to horses a goat is a vets best friend. Coccidiosis, foot rot, worms , CAE ,bloat, pinkeye and on and on. Just something for you to think about before you spent too much money on fence, buying goats ,feed , hay and all the other goodies. You will need a really good fence to keep these things in, I always said , If you can throw a bucket of water thru it, a goat can get thru it .Never ate any goat meat. Good luck .
