Umm. Not True. I was born in England to Irish parents who came to Australia when I was three. They moved back to Ireland and asked me to come back, which I did. I hated it and was so happy to return to Australia in 1990. As soon as I saw the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge, I remember being so happy: " I am Home!"!!

You can also ingratiate yourself to Aussies while driving a car , e.g. if you're out front of a line of cars in a 100 kph zone , always drive at 80 kph as a way of expressing your concern for their safety but speed up at the overtaking lanes to share the fun . At night , dipping headlights to low beam for oncoming traffic is entirely voluntary, oncoming traffic may flash their high beams at you as a gesture of mateship and solidarity .

Your best yet Ross! Welcome to Oz! You’ve hit every button there is. Well not EVERY button but all the crucial ones. I met a fellow Pom mate of yours who on our exiting from a double laned roundabout in my (80 year tenancy) local area hyperventilated on his horn so much so that I thought “he shouldn’t go on like that “ so when I caught up with him and his meek, cowered wife at the next traffic lights, I said to him, “What did you consider was erroneous in my driving skills when we exited the double laned roundabout back there?” He then proceeded to tell me like any Pom who has been in Oz for 2days that “You can’t do that and drive ahead of me in exiting” He then gave me a cautionary lecture on how England invented the roundabout (without mentioning the Parisian streets) that I was not driving to the road rules, that I couldn’t leave from the rhs lane (despite his lhs lane having 2 exit options as did mine) that he had the RIGHT to drive ahead as we both exited, and I would lose my license if we were in England. Having been a tank driver (lh drive) in National Service and driven on Continental and UK roads for nearly 2 years. I thanked him for his kind words, explicitly looked around walked to examine the car and then apologised most humbly before telling asking him You do know you are in NSW Austtralia? Or words which conveyed much the same intent. I love your and Sam’s vids Ross. Tell Sam and the girls they’re famous but tell them not to get swollen headed about it. Stan Walters

This sarcastic take on how to make friends in Australia is great! For the most part, you could apply this to Californians moving to a new state in the US. Not all Californians put their foot in their mouth, but when they do, oh man! "California does it this way", "California has this", "The weather is horrible here compared to California", "We call that this in California".

Do enjoy your sense of humour, Ross! BTW, Aussies who don’t drink do exist and we (yep, I’m one) are always welcome because we can be the designated driver, making sure everyone gets home alive and unfined. (And there’s a reliable person around to hide the mobile phones of the friends who don’t want to drunk call their ex. Well, they don’t want to when they’re sober…) As long as you’re not judgemental about your friends drinking and match the mood, no one will really care.

We do read about it and learn about other countries.
