The cost of food doesn't seem to be out of wack down under, most of the prices are about the same as we pay in the US. Although, 5 cent avocados would be unheard of here.

New Zealand prices are at least 25% more per item, except for the frozen goods and bananas which are similar prices. NZ is very expensive at the supermarkets

We do have bacon everywhere “with the bit at the end”. We call then rashers - or long bacon. They are found in the deli section of Coles and Woolworths.

I love Aldi, especially for laundry items. Unlike yourselves, we live in regional Queensland (700km north of Brisbane) and don’t have the luxury of a Costco or a fruit market, so we generally buy our fresh F&V from Aldi (45km drive away) and the local IGA (which is 12km away from us). We do tend to avoid Coles and Woolworths though, plus our local supermarket, because they are just way too expensive and the products go off before we get to use them. Great video Ross. Have a great week and stay warm….it’s getting a bit brass monkey up here, must be chilling down a bit more down where you are 🤭🤭🤭

Yes, Aldi meat doesn't impress me, and Costco has great deals if you buy in bulk. I just have to avoid the Aldi middle aisles. I go in to buy a jar of peanut butter, and end up buying a new masonry bit kit, some odd kitchen appliance and a concrete owl as well. Nice house, good to see you're enjoying your new life in Australia.

If you want the tail bit of the bacon - the streaky bacon - now that we know you are a Costco member, get the Coburg streaky bacon in that huge chiller section next to that huge freezer section (I'm in Canberra but Costcos are all reassuringly the same). You'll be glad you did :-)

I have a coles, woolies and Aldi all within a 100 metre the shopping centre, Cannon Hill, I go to. I always go to woolies because it's the closest. Perhaps, I should step outside the box and go to Aldi which is literally 50 metres further to walk and save a few bucks.

Did costco last week, was sooo much cheaper and better quality than the supermarkets in terms of meat packs. We also do a monthly butcher shop "Narangba Select Meats" next to Narangba Station. They have a $170 pack where you can get 10 items of meat, including steak, chicken, mince etc and its all very good quality. That lasts us (Family of 8 with teens and adults) a month.

I've noticed that over the last several years, Aldi has become less value for money than it once was, and is just as much as Woolies, who I shop with. For me, based on where I live, Aldi, and Woolies, is a 100km round trip, so any possible savings are lost in fuel costs, especially as Woolies does home delivery to my little town, for less than my fuel, which Aldi doesn't offer. As for frozen veges, you'll find they can be better for you in that as the frozen veges are snap frozen soon after picking on the farm, thus they are fresher than 'fresh' veges as you don't know how long it's been between picking and getting to the store.

@@aishaabdullah6993 thanks for coming back, does Melbourne have good springs and summers? Thing is, brits have a different opinion on what’s cold. Keeping an eye on the weather apps, I can see Melbourne is around 16 degrees Celsius during the Autumn which is like spring in the UK 😀 I’ve seen the average temp in winter is 14 degrees. Which to us is almost shorts weather 😂

@kevape oh no worries mate, I'm originally from Tassie so our winters were on average 2°c and sometimes lower. Melbourne has similar for winter but being from the UK dealing with snow and rain I think you'd find it a breeze. I won't lie, I'm on the Gold Coast and have lived here for 8 years and the summers can be brutal like the air is so humid you could drink the air and it feels suffocating. Melbourne is good if your big into fashion and food. Qld is good for well.. not wearing clothes 😆 and living by the beach. I really love QLD but I find it a bit more unaffordable compared to Melbourne. Just make sure you have a house lined up, I'd hate to see you competing against 100 other people. How exciting for your visa application! We pretty welcoming here, you'd be welcomed with open arms, just remember when your here, if you have questions or need help do not hesitate to ask us Aussie's enjoy helping.

@@aishaabdullah6993 that’s great pal! Yeh I think the humidity would kill me to be fair if it was for months on end, I don’t know how I would deal with it. Yeh it’s exciting and scary obviously. The market for housing in Melbourne looks like the UK’s to be fair. Expensive and in short supply. We’re not looking for inner city living, suburb within 30 ish mins to CBD is ideal. Looks like you get more for your dollar though for housing in Brisbane they seem to be on a bigger plot of land with swimming pools whereas in Melbourne the plots even in the suburbs look smaller for the same money. Gold Coast looks lush!! We’ve also been looking at Newcastle, seems like a half way house weather wise.
@coraliemoller3896
@coraliemoller3896 6 ай бұрын
If you like weather that is not too hot and not too cold, then New South Wales is goldilocks. You don’t have to choose Sydney, which is very expensive. There are smaller cities in the Central Coast area, north of Sydney, then a bit further north is Newcastle, and to the south there is Wollongong. All of these are coastal cities with nearby beaches and city amenities. You just have to find a job in your field that is on the migration list. But need to be quick as pressure is on to close the immigration program for now, until housing catches up with demand. Same all around Australia.

The passata is awful, trimat 9.99 had that fresh smell that lingers. Love the fish fingers. Pesto is good. The nut bars can be cheaper in Woolworths if on special. Chicken crispy is better than the original. The sweeteners are good value. The noodles and gnocchi is great value. The cereal is on par with Kellogg’s. The porridge is delish. Most products come from Aussie big brands anyway
