Really enjoyed this lesson. I have trained myself to use slides in lieu of bends for the most part...using it as an ear training exercise. So for me this was a real eye opener. Btw I really like the Gilmour interview and how we're always bending and it's a part of our personality on the instrument.

Yes you can bend the G string! Here's my acoustic guitar setup: Tuned down 1/2 step to Db instead of E, with light strings and an unwound G string, (the lowest gauge possible) because the G seems to resonate so powerfully. By tuning down 1/2 step is easier to bend the strings. By using an unwound G string it is easier to bend, and also, reduces that irritating high pitched sliding sound of the fingers sliding across the wound G string. My acoustic guitar has a magnetic sound hole pickup so when I play through an amp it sound kind of like an electric but the string bending is still limited compared to an electric, but it still has much better bending than an acoustic with a wound G string tuned to standard pitch! Another advantage to tuning down 1/2 step other than the looser strings: is that jazz and wind instruments such as saxophone play 1/2 step down, so you can play normal chords rather than having to try to play difficult flat guitar chords, and it also makes singing easier since is is 1/2 step down!!! Hope this helps.
