This video is a little different. Half is set by a standard hand pusher and finished with a flat scorper. The other half is set with a Foredom hammer handpiece and finished with a GRS Graversmith bright cut.

Thanks for watching and the feedback. I think it's best way so far to help describe what is going on. I'm still experimenting with the channel.

Thank you for making this video. I would have beeen very discouraged after hand setting a small faceted stone and it looked as it did early in this video. Seeing the progression like this, and so close up, (great camera work!) was very useful as was the commentary. Thanks!

I've made this type of setting and it is definitely difficult to set manually. I have RA and the hammer handpiece was a game changer for me. I use it almost every day as it's very versatile to use on many projects. I would enjoy seeing how you prepare your felts and tools too! Thank you! Looking forward to more videos from you,

It really is a game changer. I don't think I even mentioned that it can be adjusted by turning the ring on the handpiece. I've made the felt shaping video. Only needs the commentary and should be going live by Friday evening uk time. 👍🏼

Thanks! Interesting to see the hand vs hammer handpiece. I now think the hammer handpiece I bought is crap... It's more like a jackhammer!

Hi Ydna loving your videos your so skillful, I'm 60 years old and self teaching myself using videos like this so thank you for them. I have a question? I have the foredom flex shaft and a hammer piece but where do you buy your hammer tips i only have a rounded one that came with the hammer. Thank again for your videos.

@kevinmoss9853 never too late. Just have to want to learn. I've got the same. What country are you in? In England you can buy a five pack of assorted tips. All of them are too big, so I grind them down to a smaller point with a diamond cylinder burr. The bigger the tip the less power is to the bang. The tip I use in this video is the original round tip, but adapted. Thanks for watching.

Another great tutorial. I don’t know if I missed it but what are you using to hold the collet firmly in the ring clamp? Thank you so much
@metalofhonour
@metalofhonour 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for commenting. Only for demo purposes, the collet is soldered to a bitbof square bar. Normally it would be in a ring etc.

Hi, thanks for sharing your expertise. I watch quite a few teachers on youtube, but I do like the way you explain things. I have do a bit of silver and gold work (I mainly work with wood) and can't wait to make silver and gold stone set rings. Do you do any private classes for teaching at all?

You're welcome. Thank you for watching and commenting. It really helps me and it's great to know the videos are helping people. This channel is just something I'm trying to build at the same time as running my studio. I used to do a lot more one on one tuition at a day rate, but I'm quickly running out of time nowadays sadly. Soon I'll be properly introducing a discord server with invite links. I'll be building a little community on there where people can can share and help each other. I'll also be linking a patreon membership if the channel gets bigger for one on one advice. I've got a nice ring tutorial scheduled for Sunday (5pm gmt). Definitely worth a look.
