I realized, after I started the cast-off row, that I was actually doing a crochet slip stitch. I switched out a crochet hook for the right needle, and AMAZING! So much easier!! Now, I’m sure that is very unconventional, so I apologize if I just cause more confusion. I just thought that might be a fun experiment for crossover crochet/knit people 😁

Just did the cast off on my tiny project. The most stress I've ever been in to this date. Definitely messed up in the middle where I confused myself 10x more than I already was but continued nonetheless to the last stitch which was the embodiment of stress. By then I had already wiled my shaky hands twice and somehow managed to pull through without messing up once again. The stitch isn't nearly up to standard but it works and I'm proud of myself. Definitely would recommend practicing casting off on a tiny knitted material instead of going directly to your project worth a few months.

Just finished making my first wash cloth for my mother, worked out great! Except I must have done something wrong because sometimes the stitches were tighter than others, and for some reason the stiches would not connect to the rest of the cloth, it would just make a small loop after I actually did it right. But like I said, first try ever doing it and this videoreally helped me out!

I'm still trying to figure out what to do with the loose thread after casting off :( both on the bottom from casting on, and at the end from casting off. Can I just cut it, or will it unravel? Your videos have been super helpful though, thank you!

In crochet, we sew in the loose threads with a yarn needle. I would think you would do the same with knitting.

A lot of these videos don’t bother to show you how they started or end their project they just leave you hanging. Literally

Go check out her cast on video, and check out her hack videos! Me asking mom to help. Mom said ask grandma. We face-timed her. She's sleeping. Mom said to check out KZbin. I found this awesome video series. I asking myself how to change colors in knitting. Saw how to knit harry potter scarfs. I guess that changes color! Let's go check that out!

I have one question, can you cut of both tails or not? Will it undo?
@sheepandstitch
@sheepandstitch 5 жыл бұрын
It’s best to weave in the tail using a tapestry needle to ensure that it doesn’t unravel.

Unfortunately there was no mention about what to do with the tail when the cast off was completed. For a beginner this is important! Also, the music is distracting. Could viewers have an option regarding whether to have it or not? Muting won't work because I'd lose her directions.

You can always join a new ball of yarn (I have a video on that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHnbanSvh9OAaqM) but if you’re only missing a bit of yarn I would unravel the knitting a bit and then cast off

Love your site you’ve easily taught me a lot! I just finished a shawl that I’ve had for about thirty years. I put yarn on the edges, I cut them so that they are even the yarn is so frill it keeps falling apart, anything I can do to fix it. Thank you

I learned to knit at school but it was centuries ago and in my head cast off was "in over through and off" which didn't work so I ripped it out and redid it in crochet but I wanted to make a mini shawl and just started it without thinking and this time I thought it was stupid so looked and found you. My memory being as it is I will have to look again but the shawl is cast off. Thank you so much!
