What are the three approved PS fluids? Assume one is the AGR brand fluid...

Is this method good on older cars like my 78 Nova? stock power steering system.
@lourdesrichey21584 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the informative video!! As you said "turn the car off immediately" if there is still air in the system, what happens if you turn it on and do the lock to lock and do not turn it off?
@Steeringproshop4 жыл бұрын
Lourdes Richey the problem is if there is air in the system, and you don’t turn if off the air passes through the pump, (air locking it, metal in metal friction) causing damage to the pump. It’s very important to not run the pump with any air in the system!

Is it normal for the fluid to turn frothy as soon as the car is turned off?

I have a 2000 chev silverado . the problem is the power steering to the left works fine but when you turn to the right, you have no power assist . I think it is caused by a bad steering gear box. What do you think.
@bobbydelamar606 Жыл бұрын
So dont use factory Mercon V for Ford??? Big John is VERY helpful. He also said to rotate pulley by hand first.

Does this works for2008 silverado?

Man this is giving me a headache. I recently installed a new power steering pump on my 04 Legacy. Turning is better initially, but the more sharp turns I make, the more the steering wheel gets stiffer. I popped the hood and realized there's a pool of steering fluid that's leaking from the top of the new steering pump, right where the lines go in. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could try next?
@rajuanoop4623 жыл бұрын
So you mean to do this procedure with engine run or shut down?
@Steeringproshop3 жыл бұрын
You always to the entire procedure with the engine off.

Hi I put a new pump on the other day an now with car on lift it turns by its self to the left .an if you turn it back to the right it's hard to turn. Is this air in lines or do I have another problem
@Steeringproshop5 жыл бұрын
Mike Hoagland what you are describing sounds more like a characteristic of a steering gear problem, not a pump problem. It sounds like a broken or damaged directional valve in the steering gear box.

Am I able to use my V-belt pulley with your power steering pump? 1987 Jeep Wrangler YJ , it's got the GM pump with a V-belt pulley and I prefer to keep the v-belt. Currently looking at your Rock ram system via Quadratec.
@Steeringproshop Жыл бұрын
Yes you can use your pulley. You can order from us direct or one of our vendors

Whats all the hubbub with vacuum bleeding then for GM's?
@Steeringproshop5 жыл бұрын
widtrak77 using a vacuum to help bleed your power steering produces very little results! I’ll do a video on this soon! Make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss it!
@widtrak775 жыл бұрын
@@Steeringproshop ok! Interesting. Why are so many service procedures now touting this as necessary? My intent was to do your method I've always done that before and use the vacuum bleeder to finish it off but I won't bother if it's unnecessary
@Steeringproshop5 жыл бұрын
widtrak77 I’ve only seen videos of guys showing their new handy dandy tool and using it for bleeding but I’ve never seen a vacuum pump specifically named in any manufactures procedures. I guess the vacuum could be used to “assist” of the bleeding procedure but the rotation of the wheel lock to lock will still have to be done repetitively. The tried and true way is still tried and true. Let us know if we can help with anything.

@@Steeringproshop AllData recommends vacuum bleed for a lot of Fords and Chevys. So if I have a factory MotorCraft pump do I use Mercon V (As the manual says) or will AC Delco fluid work better?

thumbs down for me, he forgot to tell us if we keep the cap screwed on or off when we turn the wheels from side to side, too important a step for him to miss it. THUMBS DOWN for me.

The caps are designed to allow air to escape fluid can escape through a tight cap as well
@EnsignJC2 жыл бұрын
So you're saying the cap can be on or off, doesn't matter? Other youtubers show their clips with the cap off. This clip seems to suggest off as well, since he said "Have your firnd start the engine while you're watching if the fluid level goes down." You wouldn't see that if the cap is on, right?
@Ikillintel1 Жыл бұрын
@@EnsignJC been 5 months so I'm guessing you figured it out, if you have a friend available, let them turn the wheel lock to lock with the vehicle on Jack stands. You watch the fluid lvl and keep it full as it sucks down. It's really not a hard procedure, just time consuming.
@SteveMoore71 Жыл бұрын
There is no relevance in the caps location, so no reason to mention it. He didn't say anything about checking tire pressure either.... think there might be a reason?
