How to bleed Riello RDB Oil burner

This was my method of bleeding with the available tools on a cold weekend, I regretted letting it run out, my plumber says he has a hand held pump that he uses to draw the oil through

After 3 days in the Scottish cold and my plumber unable to come help we have heating again!! Thank you so much. It took quite a while for the air to finish coming through as our tank is a bit of a distance.

Thank you for the helpful video. I ran out and had to bleed my line as well. It took about 30 times of resetting for a 15m hose, but eventually got it working. 😁

Thank you so so much! We had tried bleeding it 10 times and had given up, about to call an expensive engineer. I just found this video and seen the comments and realised it could take a lot more attempts. We tried 2 more times and success!! It’s fired up. Simon, Your excellent video has been a life saver. As out tank is approx 16m away it took 15 bleed attempts of unscrewing the Allen screw. Fantastic!

Worked a treat. I'm lucky my tank is very close to the boiler (outside) and the tank is higher than the boiler so air lock came out very quickly.

NB: This method is OK if you have a very short oil pipe between the boiler and tank, if its too long you will just knacker your oil pump by keep running air through it. And Simon - how old is that oil flexible hose? They are supposed to be replaced annually unless you use the 'rubber' ones which are 3 years. Thats the original one from installation! You ought to get a professional in to a) remake the oil line to the burner properly and get that hose replaced.

Nothing is happening when I push my reset button ? My heating was running fine. I changed the thermostat and the whole burner as I had a spare. If l leave it for a few hours it will attempt to fire up but then nothing and it won’t let me reset it again. Any ideas of my problem ?

Thanks this was helpful. If you have some gravity head on the oil then if you first open the screw up quite a bit before trying to start you can hear it hiss the air out - when oil starts to run close and try starting - still may need a couple of bleeds with the oil pump running but less attempts needed overall (and better for the pump as less dry running)

Bled it 6 times but now the pump isn’t pushing the oil air through. It just cuts out instead of pumping. Does the digital control board need to be set any particular settings? Thanks

My fuel tank is about 20 metres away from my boiler, and sits on a raised concrete plinth. So, the outlet pipe from the tank is higher up than the burner bleed valve. What you happen if I opened the bleed valve and did not press the button? Could gravity alone clear the air out of the line? I now have 500 litres of kerosene in the tank, so there should be ample pressure at the tank outlet pipe. Or do I have to use the burner pump?

When I spoke to my plumber, he says he has a hand pump he uses to suck it through, I guess is you loosened of the bleed screw and waited gravity would feed it too.
