I had to bleed the cooling system on my 1993 Toyota MR2, so I thought I would make quick video to show others how to do it. Bleeding the system can be difficult, but the way I like to bleed the cooling system out has made the process easy!

Best and simplest video i've seen explaining this process! After reading many forum posts, I was quickly confused by all the various methods people seem to have, but this makes the most sense to me. I just bought an AW11 that i suspect has a lot of air trapped in the system and the process is basically identical on the older cars so this helped a lot! Thanks!!

OMGodness, my MR2 has no heat and the reason was because the heater core control was disconnected from the lever inside the car (ie the little guy you mentioned at 4:30), reconnect it and the climate control actually control the heater core (open & close) and viola there's heat! Thank you!! Awesome vidoe!

Best video on the subject for a SW20 I've found, thanks. Did you just leave the car running the 40 minutes or so? I'm having an issue with my 93 Turbo where it feels like there's a radiator obstruction; using the same funnel you have, eventually water will just back up into the funnel and overfill it, usually once the car is up to temp. I can't just leave it alone or it overflows. I chalked that up to coolant going out the path of least resistance, but if yours doesn't do that, then maybe my rad is obstructed after all (the driver's side line is piping hot while the radiator and passenger's side return line are cold to the touch and eventually coolant blows out of the expansion tank).

You could fill up the funnel adapter part of the way. It has a plug, so if there is extra coolant, it can be put back into the coolant container.

i bled the coolant using your instruction and others so thank you. but when i was letting the car run for less than 5 minutes the coolant boiled and overflowed the funnel. not air bubbles actual boiling due to heat. the car temp gauge never goes above 50% and i turned the car off and it continued to boil for a few minutes. it happens every time same way even without the funnel on i can hear and feel the coolant boiling in the reservoir. this is way before the mr2 radiator fans turn on. car has not been driven in decades any ideas?

That’s a tough one without being there. You mentioned the cars say for a decade. My immediate thought would be if there is a obstruction somewhere in the cooling system. Like a clogged radiator, bad water pump, stuck thermostat.

@@saladbar21 yea these 3 are my guess. I'm trying to pull thermostat now. If it's the water pump I'm done with the car

my cooling system sometimes works fine and sometimes it doesn't, I suspect it has a bubble. can I remove them without having to remove all the coolant?
@saladbar21
@saladbar21 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you should be able to. Just the follow the bleeding procedure, no need to drain and refill the coolant.

Do you open the valves before or after starting the car?

I hate that little heater valve. The parts availability sucks. The design sucks, like the screw is plastic, and it's tucked up behind other parts. I first used a big flat head, but as the years went on I ended up using pliers... And that OE radiator makes me mad when I see it. Get it out of my sight!!! Edit: I know that the owners/shop service manuals tell you to use a funnel and all that- but I think you should try one of those vacuum coolant fillers. ALSO, keep an eye on that green coolant, because I used green Prestone once and it turned opaque brown. I have since flushed to the original Toyota/Porsche coolant (I work at a P car shop) and it is still translucent red.

Hey I was able to place an order for the heater valve from Amayama. If you need one try them
