Ferrets are amazing how they adapt to your schedule. One thing not often talked about are the joys of elderly ferrets. They will still play a bit, but they've mellowed out and just want to hang out with you. Being a working musician, my practice was at night and we had a routine where they'd get a treat and I'd set up a small bed for my little Beatrix. That was her spot. And definitely talk to them. They know your voice.

Ik this was 5 months ago, but ferrets need at least 4 hours out of their cage a day, but letting them out for a more extended time than 4 hours will make them happier, and I am pretty sure 4 hours a day can't be a daily routine, and if you do this too often it will make them very sad. So I recommend putting your ferret in your room maybe? Get some extra stuff? Ferret proof it all around? That way you could leave him in a certain room where is cage is (or not) with a tunnel, litter box, toys, just enough food and water to last as long as you're gone for, not too little not too much, just right amount for depending on how long you'd be gone, maybe if you have 2 ferrets they could socialize? But that also depends on room size, etc. And they should not be in that room for TOO long.

If you get out their energy in the morning and in the evening, it's totally fine to put them in the cage for the night. That's what we do! If they had a ferret room, you could let them run loose. Remember, the habits you take with them become their routine! If they know that night = cage sleep, they will adjust to it. If night = free roam, that will become their new norm. ♥

The real daily routine: wake up and release the beasts, they'll be biting the cage, turning things upside down, cranking the metals as loud as possible. They'll come out like devils that suddenly saw the gates of hell open (hopefully, you managed to hide everything that you don't want to be taken from you). Whilst cleaning the cage, don't think too hard about their tiny size and how much poop they manage to squeeze out during the night. Watch in horror as they jump in your bed stinking as skunks, get under your pillow, blanket, etc. Soon they will be bored (like 10 minutes), they will come to you with that inquisitive face of "ok, what we have for fun today?". Get their toys and pretend that they are prey, give then a good fight and let them kill the prey and hide their bodies (the plastic pig dies twice a day, at least). You'll take your breakfast without sitting; otherwise, they'll reach you and steal whatever you are having (be careful with sweet stuff, it can kill them if you drop it or forget it in reach). When leaving for work, you'll discover that one of them got inside the kitchen furniture by breaching the tons of silver-tape that you placed there to avoid them getting inside of it in the first place. Just leave it, and pray for the best. You'll come back later to discover that the devils managed to open your dorm furniture, there's poop in the carpet, and they are sleeping in your bed stinking like skunks. They will wake up and chase you; for some reason, they cannot go for their food in the cage all day. They will play more, kill the pig again, run with the rubber chicken, chase the plastic pig, challenge you for the territory dominance, fight amongst themselves. Later, they will align themselves, and perform whatever trick you want if you get a nice egg for them. They don't deserve it, but you'll do it anyway. They will be sleepy, cute; they will lick your face, your hand, they will accommodate themselves in your laps and get all the gentle petting you can give. At last, you will place in the cage, then go around the house after all the stuff they stashed, get all the toys, clean everything... After a hard day, a nice shower, then pyjamas. You'll remember them as you try to sleep because you forgot to change the bed. They are the cutest devil ever!

Ferrets can be very picky, and I don't recommend switching to raw food without going through a program or having a raw mentor. My first advice is work on getting him used to new foods, like wet kibble and uncooked/raw yellow egg yolk.

That's a great question! Many of these can be done with multiple ferrets (sharing space with them, leaving them your clothing). However, the one-on-one time with humans is very important to building a bond with YOU, so you might try switching off days with ferrets (Tuesday for Newt, Wednesday for Moose, etc) if you don't want to do them one right after the other in the same day. Either way, you can't go wrong just increasing the time they spend with a human, even if you have all of them near you at the same time ♥

Hello I have a question that has to do with my ferret tail. She has been losing fur on her tail and I see small little black dots on it. I looked it up saying that she may have acne on her tail. I’m hoping if you could do a video on it that further explains it and what I can do to take care of her tail so her fur can grow back healthy. She’s a healthy ferret with a healthy diet. So doesn’t have any illnesses.

SocialGalaxy this is completely normal! The little black dots are black heads, fur loss on the tail commonly occurs during summer where excess oil builds up and the pores become blocked which leads to fur loss. It’s very common, there aren’t really any solutions but give it time and your girl will grow back a nice bushy tail ready for winter :)

Like Ferret ASMR said - this is very common and normal! This is known colloquially as "rat-tail" and can be seasonal or caused by clogged pores. You can try acne wipes/swabs and wiping down the tail, or anything with a gentle salicylic acid ingredient like this: amzn.to/2I3xxsK
