When I don't ride I go into the pasture with my grooming bag and brush everyone that comes up to me lol. My barn mates probably think I'm a lil crazy

I love to sit in the field with my horse and just watch her in her natural atmosphere, that helps me get to know her better for sure. I also love grooming her, not just with brushes, but a good massage. she lovesss it! thanks for the video!

did this with my first horse when he was 22 and I was 7 up until he was 30 and I was 15. It really helped my trust with him and it got to the point where I would sit out there and do my work while he grazed around me. Sometimes we'd run around and he'd get all excited and bronc and such. 500/10 recommend he became my best friend

I actually always have a nice attitude whenever I go the the barn or ride and when my horses don't do something or I fall off or they knock something down I always end up laughing and then let them know it's alright, I don't hate you, you still mean the world to me and like to eat my wallet but that's ok too

If you want to read about join up I recommend Monty Roberts book. He invented join up, by studying a mare and colt in the wild. It's technically called the advance and retreat method.

It’s really hard for me because I have two horses that I love both equally, they stay in the same pasture together but don’t get along very well, (there are other horses in there that they both get along with) but when I try to pet one, the other one gets jealous and comes over and try’s to scare her away! So I try to get them separated and try to ride them both pretty consistently and have there off days to pet them. It’s just kinda hard because it’s easier to have one horse to focus with, rather than 2! I love them both to death tho!!! They are my baby’s❤️❤️❤️

I agree, ground work doesn't just mean pen work, it means not riding, or just jumping on with halter and riding around the front hard a bit maybe, but otherwise, finding their favorite scratch spots, not just a ritual grooming, but doing it for THEIR enjoyment, maybe working on a trick with treats, like giving their paw (hoof) (easy with favorite treats and i agree with not over doing this, for me it's like my cat or dog, they don't get their food or treat unless they lie down for it, i won't put a bowl in front of any animal rubbing on me or jumping around..once im ready to put it down, they have to lie down away from me for it, until I say ok..same with my horse, so for treats or food, I ask for a trick, or I make sure they don't push on me to get it, can't enter stall for food until I say kinda thing, it's not that hard, they just get an absolute NO until they listen, it only takes two or three times..:), so for treats anytime, I always ask for paw with my horses, but if they start pawing before hand, I say nope, no treats then, and put them in the tack box..they learn fast not to bother asking..lol), but finding that magic scratch spot, wear gloves if you're squeamish, but sometimes it's inside a back leg, or under their belly on one side, between the front legs, or even up under the tail (Im not talking in dirty areas), I mean they have sensitive spots like us, and the spine, rubbing and massaging the spine, find their spot, sometimes there are spots we don't realize irritate the back, like if your horse puts his ears back every time you mount, there could be a spot being pinched in the spine or upper girth area you don't realize cause it releases when you sit, she is so right, learn your horses body, and he/she will love your visits, even 5 minutes "before " a ride, so they don't look forward only to the end of a ride, and do some joy lovin at the end...you are a good horsewman to go out on your off riding days, and love on them...xo..(don't forget to give some verbal love a t least to other peoples babies too guys...and the barn cats..dogs..xo

4:13, look how relaxed he is with you, his lower lip is just hanging, he is so happy, and you said supplements have made him calmer? you would be great to tell us about that too...oh ya, and those exfoliating gloves you can get at the dollar store, they are not only good for the shower, they are good for washing dishes, mixing feed, and ..dadummm..for scratching your baby, cause you can still feel him well ,but he gets a good scratch, and you can put the pressure on, they are cheap and washable, and they are great for doing dishes at home too by the way..and saddle cleaning, and...well you get it, but mostly, they give a good scratch in that area so you can see them tilt their head up and bite the air..lol..xo

Love this video! I love just spending time with my horse. Don't get me wrong I LOVE riding, it's the best feeling in the world and it's a way to bond with your horse but I love just doing groundwork with my horse. I love lunging him as well. I love building a stronger bond with him. My horse is my absolute everything and I would be lost without him. The better bond with you have with your horse, the better ride you will have. I hate when people treat their horses like machines. A horse and rider are supposed to be a team. You can't be a team if you don't have a bond and I think that goes for any sport. 💖🐴

I love this video! Great idea with the tips and I'll try some of them! My favorite thing to do with my horses is whatever they like to do. I have 4 horses and each one has a different personality. One is very "cowy" and likes being around cows so my favorite thing to do with him is ride him around cows and stuff. I won't go into my favorite thing with each horse haha, but that's one of them!

My horse loves any type of scratch, anywhere 😂 I really like a natural horsemanship guy, who goes of the whole, being the alpha horse, his name is Warrick Schiller. I am also going to try liberty once my horse is in work again. If you find any good sites or anything? Keep it up Jill, maybe do like a routine video? :)

I used to watch you and other channels wanting a horse now today my dad said we are going to see one I thought he was lying but no it was real and I rode him and we got him today the same day I saw him. He doesn't know how to ride with bit which im glad he's a palomino and named him Sol (Sun) and he used to get abused with a whip he can't see one without freaking but I will never use one. He's so cute and tall. I somehow managed to get on him. He was taught to dance which is cool but I'm using him as a trail horse and have some work now and then. Welp now he's mine 6/23/18.

What should I do if my lesson horse keeps dragging me through the barn every time I take her out. She also doesn't let me tack her up without a fight. My trainer is too busy with lessons before me so she is never in the barn when this happens. It's really scary and I don't feel safe around her anymore. What should I do?
