Myself and a lot of other tech writers have really been impacted by these changes. I really dont like what they have done and this new boost feature but this happens to every platform I guess. I hope Medium takes into account the negative feedback also

I actually feel similarly, especially because a lot of my highest-earning stories aren't personal stories. I hope so too, they do take feedback into account, so perhaps we can see another tweak in the future. 🙂🤞

How long people, are reading your story, record every story and it will tell you how your story is making out. Wow! This is really great sum of money. Yes! ,$700, is a lots of money. This article is a success. Network of numbers, publication can boost your stories. Our goal is $900 a month.

Thanks for sharing your insights and findings. My earnings have taken a huge nosedive, it's certainly time to shake things up and look at what is going to work on the new system, and if it's even worth pursuing. I'm so glad I took up writing on y own blog and via KZbin as these other two sources have saved me since Medium has significantly dropped.

Your reference about experimenting at time stamp 10:55 is an important point. When we go to a concert, we see a perfect performance, but not the hours spent working on the imperfections. Experimenting brings us to a perfect piece that readers expect from our work. .

I read almost every word Coach Tony said about the Boost. Basically, they didn't manage to build an algorithm able to make good recommendations and reward good writing. So they resorted to human judgment. They are aware of human biases. They think that with enough nominators, they will be able to overcome biases. But a publication editor told me that for now, nominators are covering less than 10% of the published articles. And remember they can Boost also old articles. Until there are enough nominators, the Boost will remain random. Did you find common elements among your Boosted articles?

Wow, that's really great insight! And, it makes total sense. Hopefully, they can get more nominators on board to help cover more of Medium. In terms of commonalities, the main aspect I've noticed is constructive personal experience. Moving forward, I'm focusing on using personal experience as a base and then adding research to back up what I've learned. This, opposed to highlighting famous/authoritative figures, like I have in the past. 🙂🙌

That's a great start! Right now, I'm only writing 1 per week, but in the past, I wrote 2-3. I've slowed down because I'm experimenting with getting Boosted consistently. 🙂🙌 I would recommend writing 1 per week as a minimum and spending the rest of your time engaging with other people's stories to build mutual engagement. 🙂🙌It's really helpful for building an engaged audience.

Great info but I was thinking you were going to focus on what has happened since August. What has happened pre and post August has been a radical change. This was not directly spoken about. My earning are down 90% since August like the vast majority of writers. Your clip would have been a lot more helpful if you had addressed what has happened recently.. keep up the great work

Totally, I saw about a 70% decrease as well since August. 😬 And that's great feedback. I'll actually be filming a video today on how the changes affected my earnings and my strategy moving forward. Boosting is a part of it -- the video be live in the next 2 weeks. 🙂🙌

Hello Hudson keep up the good work. I got a question I am from Kenya and we don't have Stripe so Medium says we cant get paid. However as I was publishing my recent story I noticed Medium had activated my earnings settings so know I can see how much my story is making. Now my question is can my previous 14 stories be activated to start earning as well. I clicked the edit button to see if the earnings could be activated on them but didn't succeed. Kindly advice if possible. Thank You.

@@hudsonrenniewrites I see the earnings but cannot withdraw them until Stripe and Medium open to Kenya hopefully in coming months. But they opened the system for stories to be earning in the meantime.

More or less they destroyed the platform. Many people got screwed over by the changes. Best thing they could do is revert back what they had. At the very least meet in the middle with their formula. Some think they are hurting financially and this was done as a cover up of sorts. Whatever the case, it needs fixed!

Yes, taking read time out of the equation removed almost all objectivity from the algorithm. 😬Now, it's more about what people think about articles rather than what actually captures attention. I'm still hopeful though. I like Medium, so I'm devising a new strategy. 🙂🙌
