Thanks for being so straightforward. I’m 35 weeks with my second and my first breastfeeding experience was not pleasant for MANY reasons. I was extremely uneducated and found there was no one to help me. I felt so guilty after only a few months, my milk was almost completely gone. I don’t want to fail this time so here I am, EDUCATING myself with the help of lovely women like you♥️

I want to say thank you for adding the part about necessary supplementation. I was cringing at first about you saying remove supplementation because I was thinking how babies are going to starve from that but then I heard the rest and took a sigh of relief.

I wish your videos were around 5 years ago when I had my first child. I felt like such a failure because I couldn't breastfeed. My baby had a hard time latching, my milk wasn't coming in and I was worried about my baby starving. I had felt like such a failure of a mom. But now I am pregnant with baby #2 & I feel so prepared this time around! Thank you for all these videos!

Same girl! I had my son in 2015 and had similar problem, my son had a bad latch even after getting his tongue tie taken care of, I also don't think i was producing much as I pumped every 2-3hrs for a couple months and never produced more than 10ml between both breasts ever. Support was lacking and I didn't know what to do other than just pump a lot which didn't work for me. I am hoping it will be different this time. My baby is coming next week, thankfully this time they have a donor milk bank while im trying to get things sorted (honestly just hoping it will all work out naturally this time). I also am not leaving this hospital until im happy with the breastfeeding/plan.

wow! that's what I would like to do but I always wondered at what age you really have to start feeding them real food. is there a point where you have to stop exclusively breastfeeding? I didn't find anyone really talking about it.

Zeyna Nd You’ll often hear food before one is just for fun. I did introduce some purées around five months for various reasons. We started feeding her what we were eating at 7 months when she was showing readiness for baby led weaning. So I guess it isn’t *technically* exclusive at that point. I always look at the term exclusively breastfeeding as not giving formula...nothing wrong with formula at all, just not the route that I wanted to go. Just over 15 months later we’re still breastfeeding, but she’s eating her normal meals too.

@@nageenkhalid Me too! THIS PART. I produce enough milk and I am so proud of my amazing baby and amazing body. I use supplements to keep my own wellbeing alive. When I'm breastfeeding only I am so drained by the early afternoon hours. That is why we use supplements, in that way my breasts get two breaks a day, Baby is satisfied, hubby can do it when needed and I feel so much better. How do other women breastfeed only? I would totally prefer it and do it, but my mental health is also so important. Doesn't do us any good if I'm a walking struggle.

I totally agree to everything she said. Target has excellent lactation cookies , by Munchkin Milkmakers company. This plus Mother's Milk tea / large water bottles consume and , have a breastfeeding log, & speaking with Lactation consult every month will definitely increases milk supply. And help milk supply last to 1 year of age.

5 months on May 27th, my son is wearing 6 month cloths, eating mostly milk, and some fruit. I was very lucky with him, he had a strong latch from the very beginning. I try to rest oatmeal and drink mother's milk tea everyday, and I noticed a huge difference in my supply when I also off. I also cut back on caffeine, and that has a lot. With all these combined, I can, on acreage, fill 2 8oz bottles while pumping at work. Maybe more.

I struggled with breastfeeding as a first time mom, mainly because I wasn’t educated enough and got conflicting and confusing advice from midwives and lactation consultants. I think the number one thing women have to decide is what is their goal. Is it to exclusively breastfeed, and do they plan on doing it for how long? I knew I couldn’t exclusively breastfeed for 6 months mainly because I had to go back to work. In the end, combination feeding (using formula and bottle feeding pumped milk) worked out for both me and the baby. I just wish the lactation consultants had paid more attention to me and my struggles rather than just being breastfeeding nazis and assuming I wanted to exclusively breastfeed.

I went through this my oldest is 18, then 10, then 4 an I’m due with my final addition in 2 weeks. I had no issues with my first then my 2nd who was spaced out I gave up after 4 months bedside I was not making enough an the baby was losing weight, then my 3rd again out of no where it happened but I was determined to get her more breast milk an find out what was happening because I know my first I produced plenty and yes it took time. I had to keep trying an waking up at night here an there at the growth spurt stages of the the baby but as you know when we aren’t producing an we are trying everything it’s a drastic thing, it’s real, and you can tell no matter how much you try it’s upsetting and you just don’t know what to do. Well finally I found something that really did help me and j noticed it within hours not days, so I would offer one last suggestions before you throw in the towel, if you can an if you haven’t already done this. Try increasing electrolytes, no one told me this until I was switching to formula with my last baby. I did everything possible everything when I started drinking Gatorade (I did this by buying the powder versions, this way I could add it to more water but not as much of the powder to cut back on the stuff that’s no that great to drink in excess 😂 ) it really made a difference for me. I was drinking .5-1 ounce per pound of body weight like 130 ounces a day of fluids which is what we are suppose to. Regularly we need .5 ounces to 1 ounce per pound that we weigh, and more if we’re in the heat, or doing more physically. So if your 180 pounds for example an it’s hot out you want 180 ounces of fluids from drinks even food fluids count, maybe some more, I know it seems like a lot and I was shocked to find this out. My whole life I though 8 glasses of 8 ounces a day was fine more if I was sweating or what not… so this blew my mind the amount of fluid we need BUT we need electrolytes if we don’t have the proper salt intake / electrolyte intakes we can’t retain the fluids we are drinking an it doesn’t break down properly, you can be dehydrated an drinking plenty of water but if we lack that our bodies can’t absorb the fluids properly, I was shocked honestly and embarrassed. You may well know all of this already but just in case you don’t I figured I may as well share because I think a lot of people assume we do know these things or we learned them at least during pregnancy. If we are thirsty we’re already getting dehydrated an our pee should be nearly clear an peeing should be nearly once an hour, while breast feeding but you can hold it unlike when pregnant of course don’t if we can help it to limit uti risks but the urge to pee once an hour during the waking hours are the things my friend filled me in on that I never really looked into and paid much kind to, sorry this is so long but it was the ONLY thing that literally changed my productivity in real time that I knew truly worked everything else even tons of money wasted on those milk cookies and tears etc. Was all such a waste for me personally but we are all different and sometimes it just doesn’t work; and that’s ok. It was just shocking to me the amount of fluids we are suppose to drink let alone when we’re nursing. We need to drink a lot more fluid then I was ever told. I’m not saying this is going to do it for you, but it helped me tremendously. I had to supplement half milk half formula for a few weeks as I pumped as much as possible because by the time my friend a l&d nurse asked if I tried adding more electrolytes in my fluids I had already started supplementing with donor bank milk because my pumping sessions were producing way to little. I exclusively bf for the first few months an then it was obvious I had a supply problem, but this helped an we bf till she was 8 months. Luckily there wasn’t any issue with bottles or breast for me with her. I hope you find something that helps you ❤️🙏

Due to many factors and being uneducated on breastfeeding, my first child was only breastfed for 4 months. Here I am with baby number 2 and have been watching so many videos and my goal is to do 12 months. 💪 Also am and did supplement formula, but now I know to pump, pump, pump pump it up to keep that supply up! 🤱 Also good luck to all the mommas we got this!

Can you do a breastfeeding video on how to manage to connect with the newborn when you have other children? I tried so hard to connect with my newborn last time and breastfeed but my two older kids made that almost impossible. Now I'm about to have baby number 4 and I feel like that's going to be even more difficult. How do you keep your stress down and connect to your newborn with older kids?

The lactation consultant that I talked to said “yea probably. I’m not sure” when I told her my baby had a tongue tie the day she was born then the pediatrician came in later that day & I told him she had a tongue tie & he looked & he agreed So not all lactation consultants know what they are talking about…

1. Does insulin cause low breast milk production? 2. Does thyroid is a cause of low milk production? 3. I am 43 and got to be mother just 3 months before for the first time. Can age be an issue of low milk supply?

I don't have any problem with feeding and pumping but how do you know if your baby has had enough feed? And my baby sleeps a lot so am unable to feed up to 8-12 times but when I use the bottle since the are measurements she takes a lot of milk but when am feeding straight from the best she ends up falling asleep but will still be sucking so I just stop her and burp her before I put her down but today I noticed she was choking n vomiting from mouth and little came from noise, I was kinda worried bcz this happened while she was sleeping.. Does this happens when you overfeed or what could be the problem and to know if its something I should not worried about? Am a first time mum to a 1 week old and I worry too much 🤦‍♀️

I pump 4 times a day and breastfeed twice at night my baby stopped breastfeeding at 2.5 months and my milk supply at pumping was 1 ounce from both breasts and I had to give her formula but I kept pumping and got my milk supply up to 5 ounces per pump but I must admit if I pump less often I get the same amount of milk as pumping every 2 hours. So it's not always 8 times a day and more cause it's hard to spend 4 to 5 hours a day connected to the plug.

Yes, me too - still at a low milk supply. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. With baby #2, and 1 month in, I still don't have milk pouring out of me. I've tried it all, but every BODY is different. I'd love to get more rest but I feel that I'm literally breastfeeding or pumping alllll day long! I just keep hoping that I can continue to breastfeed without burning out. Run ragged over here.

@@ruthp3237 for me Milky Mama's tinctures (Lady Leche and Dairy Duchess specifically) worked best to build up my supply. Side note: NONE of their lactation cookies or drinks worked just the tinctures. Now at 14 months my munchkin is still boobing away 🥰

That! I don’t understand how people pump so many times, unless they do it for 10 min. I need to do it for at least 30-45 min to get a good amount. It’s exhausting

I had to supplement due to high bilirubin levels. Now I want to increase my supply and I’m struggling because my baby stays hungry after nursing and I wish I didn’t have to supplement anymore but she’s hungry and I have to! It’s a vicious cycle! And today she just got an upper lip tie cut. Her latch still isn’t great. Can I look forward to it getting better??

I have exactly same issue😢 my baby is only 2 weeks old and I have to supplement 90% of her meals ... getting only 60 ml of milk per day by pumping. Not giving up yet but I feel desperate.
@tiffp323
@tiffp323 3 жыл бұрын
@@olenadoroga9089 that’s more milk than I had! Which is great. If u want to keep breastfeeding, stay the course. I ended up going to formula bc it was taking away my joy. My baby never latched well and didn’t efficiently get milk out plus it hurt so much. I never nursed at night which I know affected my supply. But you can do this if you want to. Otherwise, know that baby will be ok with whatever choice you make including formula.

When is the best time to start pumping? Google is saying start after 3 weeks or else I’ll have an oversupply.
@saramations
@saramations Жыл бұрын
You can start as soon as you want. 3 weeks is Way to late, you'd be unbelievably sore. I wasn't able to directly feed my baby colostrum becuse he was 3 weeks early. My lactation consult said not to worry about pumping my colostrum and just focus on taking care of my newborn instead of stressing about pumping. When my son was 4 days old, I woke up with my breasts engorged and leaking, so I had to get pumping becuse I went from a b to d cup that fast. I started pumping that day and my milk was in that transitional stage and they felt soooo much better. ☺️ So yeah, you're body will tell you when to start pumping.

He is 3 weeks now but his due date was yesterday, and he is just now at 6lbs. He chews instead of sucking. I have an overactive letdown and he has reflux. He is constantly throwing up. I am stressed for sure. He was 37w and he is sleeping a lot so I am missing a lot of feedings. I really want to breastfeed exclusively but should it be this hard? Do I need to wake him up to feed him? I am currently supplementing per Dr recommendation to help him gain weight. I feel absolutely helpless! Also: You look absolutely gorgeous!
@SabrinaMae12
@SabrinaMae12 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not an expert, but I had an overactive letdown and my baby would often kinda clamp down when I had a letdown or he would pull off screaming and be sprayed in the face. The one thing we found worked well for us until he figured out how to manage the flow and my supply regulated was to nurse in a reclined or side-lying position so the flow was going against gravity. Also making sure baby wasn't so hungry that he was frustrated helped. Sometimes I would put on my Haakaa before a feed to get that letdown and take the pressure off so the flow was gentler for him as well. You're doing great momma!
