2 things ro add to the switch skills: Aerial Aim can be finished with a drop attack to deal additional damage and create a mount, if the monster has been mounted already it will likely lead you to drop into attacks, so beware. After a dodgebolt counter you can instantly fire a dragon piercer, with 2/3 of the animation cut off.

@drawbyyourselve
@drawbyyourselve 2 жыл бұрын
@@ShatteredGlass916 when you counter with the dodgebolt you hear the "ding" right? If you press x+a or whatever it is for pc right after you ready a dragonpiercer, but you skip the dragging the arrow on the ground and a little of the charge animation

I always wanted to try bow all through older mh titles but I never could it just felt poorly designed and wasn't very intuitive. But once world released I ended up trying every weapon after the first thousand hours before ice borne released so my second thousand hours was focused on how gun lance and hunting horn. Ever since mh3 I've only ever used swaxe long sword great sword and hammer and lance. But now I'm proficient in every weapon except charge blade .

Same. Reddit is always saying “make sure you use charged shots” so I’ve been hating bow crawling around with the trigger held down until max charge every shot. It was so painful I could not believe how much people loved the weapon. Makes sense now.

This video's pretty solid, but if I can offer some thoughts, additions, and criticism from a fellow bow main: (Edited 5/11 for a bit more clarity and better word choices) -Holding ZL slows you down for allowing precise movement and aiming. While it's great for putting shots directly on specific hitzones, on some monsters with large, easy to hit targets, or when you just don't have time to aim for a perfectly-optimum shot, it's not necessary. You can fire without holding ZL, which allows you to transition directly from full running speed to shooting, and this alone can make repositioning and pursuing while using this weapon much easier. When running Close Range Coatings, you can almost use your bow like a melee weapon. Intelligently using aimed and unaimed shots is key to doing a lot more damage with the bow; it's very easy to get caught in a trap of thinking you must take time to aim at the absolute best spot to do damage, and miss lots of opportunities for damage that you'd have otherwise. Some damage is better than none, don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. -Bow charging is useful for conserving coatings. This is especially important with status coatings - particularly Paralyze and Sleep coatings - as you don't want to fire them with low-charge shots; they won't be as effective due to fewer hits. Bow gets far fewer shots with its status ammo than a bowgun does, so you really need to make the most out of every coating you fire. -It's not necessary to hold ZL to do the Charging Sidestep or Dodgebolt. You simply have to input a dodge command during the recovery frames of any bow attack except the Dragon Piercer, and you'll cancel it into whichever sidestep dodge you have equipped. This means you can use your sidestep dodges even when using unaimed shots. -Arc Shots can be fired without holding ZL as well. Just hold ZR and tap A, and it will fire your bow's Arc Shot at a distance of about three or four running paces ahead of you. This is useful if you want to get your Arc Shot out quickly and don't have time to aim the effect. The buff durations on Arc Shots are short, so if you want to keep them up in a pitched fight, knowing how to toss them out quickly at the expense of fine accuracy is important. -Dragon Piercer. I've got a lot to say about your opinions on Dragon Piercer. Dragon Piercer is not bad; you're just bad with it. Here's what you're missing: --You can freely aim it within a limited arc while its preparing to fire, letting you keep track of your target unless they lunge fully out of your firing arc. --It inherits the effect of any coating you fire, making it amazing for status coatings --it inherits the charge level of your bow, meaning that firing it from fully charged deals amazing damage - it can potentially deal more damage than any other single attack of any weapon in the game bar HBG wyversnipe if you can put it through multiple vulnerable hitzones --it deals tremendous amounts of stagger meaning you can potentially dunk fliers or knock over monsters with it (hint - *INTERRUPT APEX CHARGEUPS!*) --it has immense range and its Critical Distance reaches almost entirely across the extent of its range; it is literally the longest-ranged attack in the game, with the only possible exception being HBG wyversnipe (hint - *SNIPE DISTRACTED MONSTERS!*) --it can cut tails. Yes, you can cut a monster's tail off with Dragon Piercer, and it's possible to shoot a Piercer through a monster's body and down their tail, and pop the tail off with what began as a headshot. Bow is one of the few weapons that can KO *and* cut tails without switching weapons thanks to this and Absolute Power Shot. Dragon Piercer does require a distracted, downed, roaring (dodgebolt through it), stuck in a long animation (example: Allmother during the Dragonator Spin once you've dodged the dragonators, Valstrax while inhaling), or paralyzed/sleeping victim to really use effectively, but you can vastly improve your damage output by using it intelligently. You can also skip the arrow-scraping animation and shorten Dragon Piercer's chargeup by using it right after a successful Dodgebolt counter, making it useful if you're running a Dodgebolt ultra-close-range build - backwards dodgebolt through a roar or forward dodgebolt through a projectile into Dragon Piercer lets you do scary amounts of damage. Dragon Piercer doesn't benefit from Rapid/Spread/Pierce Up skills, but it does benefit from Special Ammo Boost. It's an easy two-point skill to invest into your build if you've got spare slots, but unless you're on a Rampage quest, running in a full team, or build distractions and tanking ability into your animals, Dragon Piercer's probably too situational for Special Ammo Boost to be a priority. Even without it, Dragon Piercer's plenty strong, and worth using when good opportunities show up; you won't regret it. -The different shot types have different Critical Distances. Pierce has the longest effective range, Spread has the shortest, and Rapid is in the middle. You can improve these ranges significantly with the Ballistics skill, which I heartily recommend on any bow but *particularly* Pierce bows - having a longer Critical Distance means your Pierce shots retain more of their damage as they pass through a monster's multiple hitboxes. This video's pretty good overall, and I can't fault most of your reasoning or technique, except as listed above. This is a well made video, all told, and you show off some pretty skilled play.

Idk dragon piercer isn't useless for me. There are several windows you can use the attack in, and you can combo into it (ZR, A, X+A) and can be used when a monster is knocked down, stunned, while charging an attack, and even when dazed (when the monster is standing there drooling). Its not a strong wake up attack, but if used at the right time it can definitely deal a huge chunk of damage.

I just started a solo character for mainly using the gunner weapons with bow as a main, and this is gonna help a ton so thank you! I kinda am really bad at predicting monster attacks and patterns (I have a very reactionary playstyle) so I mag get hit quite a bit more than nost but Ill do my best to get good And this is a minor thing but Im glad you said the number of shots it takes to reach max charge. Im red/green colorblind and cant tell the difference in the charge color at first glance (didnt even know it charged with each shot until this) so knowing the number is going to help me a ton

as someone who played about 200 hrs purely on bow in world, this was very instructive to figure out the minor changes, however, as a pc player, i was hoping to find some pc instructions for keybinds (or a way to get permanent reticle, because i remember in world when i pressed "v" it would just toggle the reticle on or off, which seems to no longer exist in rise) but ended up watching the whole thing anyways. all in all good informative video, earned the like :) for future reference, maybe adding a few example builds for players coming out of main story (so basically, the elder dragon fights and valstrax) is a good idea so people have an idea they can copy if they dont want to figure out their own builds (also cuz some of the recommendations on sites are kinda unintuitive at first)

In these cases where the highest charged level has a weaker shot type, what should be done? How could I block a charge level without losing much DPS or does the fact that the shot type is weak at a high charge level not influence so much?

Charge level is a temporary thing. You have to keep firing and damaging to maintain your charge level - Its been a bit for me but I think its around like 3 seconds or so - if you don't land a shot within that time, the charge level drops. As for shot type - they kinda depend on the monster and your playstyle which can take some time to figure out but also Rise has less configurability than World did - you most likely want to focus on element type of the bow to match the monster you're hunting and the shot type is kinda set cause you can't really change it.

I'm really disappointed that shot types returned after World. And I use bowguns so im used to the extra complication that gunner weapons entail but I thought Capcom did a genuis job of integrating rapid and spread (and peirce to a lesser extent) into a universal moveset. Bowguns are built for different ammo but it's not like they only give you pierce 1,2 and 3's like bows do.
