On the MP4-12C the key slot is behind the passenger door (RHD), not underneath the car. To get to the key slot you have to locate the finger hole in the top panel in the air intake and pull it done to remove the panel. Once the panel is removed you can then see the key slot. Having said that it is still incredibly difficult to unlock the door with the key. If this happens and you can't get the door to open there is another process to go through which is much more involved. Note: having charged up the battery you may encounter a number of warnings when you switch on the ignition. At this point you may have to call your local McLaren dealer for help. Who ever dreamed up this system wants shooting. It's completely ludicrous to have to go through all of this just to get the car working from a flat battery. Also, the lithium battery goes into "sleep" mode after a certain voltage is reached to protect the battery, so rule of thumb is to reconnect the charger as soon as you put the car back in the garage so the voltage doesn't drop into its sleep zone. That is assuming your car is using the factory lithium battery. Lead acid batteries don't suffer from this problem.

Glad McLaren changed the process for the 570s & 720s. That must be a real pain to get to the battery on the MP4-12C platform.

It's not too much of a problem on the MP4-12C. The real problem is getting into the trunk should the battery go into sleep mode, and once the battery is charged up and running again, you just hope you don't encounter any warning hazards like ESC fault, as that may require a McLaren engineer to visit to reset all the fault codes. Modern cars eh! 🙄

I need advice . when I put the key in the keyhole, I'm not sure if I'm turning it to the left or right - and I'm afraid to be rough so I don't break the key, so only then am I in trouble (570s) . can you help me ?

You need to pull down the door as you turn the key clockwise so the part of the key will be facing out towards you and turn the key clockwise. In other words you turn the L part to the left and it will open as long as you are, pulling down on the door at the same time….

@@supercarsinsecondsluxuryre8258 Have this same problem with 570s. Drove the car 3 weeks ago without issue then parked with charger attached. Yesterday nothing would unlock (doors, boot) so I changed both of my FOB batteries (1 was weak, 2nd key other was good). Still no luck with any functions. Trickle charger indicates full charge, shows green light. Also, neither windows have auto dropped so thinking battery is good. Any suggestions to get into the car and attempt starting the engine? Thanks .
