Dear Boyd! Thank you very much for this realization and idea! I didn't see it (especially PCI DSS) that way prior to watching this video. I was an operation analyst for near to 4 years in a credit card company, then I took a career break while learning & taking certs to get into cybersecurity. I have done the certs and it is so hard to get even an entry-level job!! The vendors are saying "We would prefer if you have formal education in this" and the organization hiring an in-house security team need someone who already has the experience. They said you should get into SOC as it is more entry-level into the career and you can learn more, I would love to, but SOC is working 24/7 and by that, it means I need to work on shift. I have done shift work throughout my career and I honestly do not want to be in shift anymore, I need proper night time to sleep. When you mentioned PCI DSS, this is something really close to me! And I can make this as a value, coming from a financial institution myself I hope it will be a do-able. With that, I have a couple of questions for you: 1) What examples of cybersecurity job roles value PCI DSS, IT Auditors? 2) Is there a cert I need to complete, appreciate if you can share further on the pathway. Thank you in advance!!

What I would do is look up three companies in your county or the next county over that went under and had to close down. Put those companies on your resume as an intern and employment that equals up to 4 years experience. They can't verify your background at a company thats been closed down.

I attended cyber bootcamp and I have 7 years of experience in the financial industry. Ima look into compliance, auditor and PCI-DSS roles.

Hey Boyd! I really wish I found this video earlier! I’m from the UK and have a BA and a Masters in Criminology & Criminal Justice and I have recently decided to transition into Cyber Security. I’m currently studying for my CompTIA A+ and after that I will be going onto CompTIA Network+ and CompTIA Security+. The course also allows me to learn Python. But I have to do all that by September 2023 alongside my full time job. As I’m paying for these certifications now (which are pricey), do you think I’ll have a good chance in getting a job with these? I don’t have any IT/technical experience and I’m only proficient in Microsoft Office! Thank you :)

I’m 19 and want to get into this field, but I’m not in school. I’m aware that security+ and network+ are the certifications I will need to start an entry level job, but is there something else or another certification I should be spending time with? You DO NOT need a background in IT to break into cybersecurity, but you need to be technical with a natural, innate prowess and passion for solving complex technology-based problems. Most people who are trying to ‘break in’ into cloud/security because of the 100k titles they see plastered everywhere, in the long run, employers realize that unless your naturally technical then you will almost certainly fail long term.
