Deadpool talks like he's the only character who knows they are in a movie; and he addresses the audience like they are as big a fan of the MCU as he is. Every other character doesn't recognize they are NOT in true reality and the audience does, indeed, love the MCU. He's the best one I've seen. Alternately, She Hulk seems to be doing some "tell don't show," which is commonly frowned upon in storytelling. it's lazy writing.

That's a good point. He's a massive fan of superheroes that struggles at every corner to rise to that image. Despite being a murderer that aspiration makes him incredibly sympathetic and the wall breaks that much more intimate. It's also worth noting that it's only occasionally expositional with DP. We don't actually gain any story beats from him talking about Wolverine's "smooth criminals" but we do immediately understand his personality, and even his interests to a degree, and it's likeable.

4:20 This reminded me of a couple of video games. One is Monster Hunter World's Shara Ishvalda, a boss towards the end of the game. It starts off encased in stone, then when it loses its stone armor, it has its eyes closed. Its final form has its eyes _open,_ but instead of looking at your player character on the screen like _every other monster,_ it looks at _you_ the _gamer,_ staring *DIRECTLY INTO THE CAMERA.* Downright unsettling. There's a few NPCs in Genshin Impact who do the same, but it's only the ones w/ the droopy eyes.

I was born in 73 and my first 4th wall experience freaked me out. My Dad took us, older brother and me, to the Drive In to watch Cheech n Chong (My Dad was AWESOME. Took us to see Porkys when it came out too lol). But in the movie the girl passed out and Cheech "broke the wall" and asked "Hey how many of you out there would do it?" and CAR HORNS STARTED BLARING....HONK....HONKHONKHONK....HOOOOOONK...it blew my MIND as a kid to see a "Movie" ask a question and the AUDIENCE answer! the main difference about Deadpool's 4th wall breaks is that he's aware of everything outside the movie. Most if not all of the 4th wall breaks we see in movies is a character talking to the audience, but Deadpool is different. One more reason why Deadpool works so well in breaking 4th wall or doing anything better than She hulk is also because Ryan Reynolds is naturally so funny. Sense of humor is a big gift and he is like Jim carrey. Their humor works so well because both of them really funny in real life and has a great sense of humor. I know it doesn’t always work like that because there are many great standup comedians but they may not act well in movies 😂 but if you are a pretty decent actor and has a great sense of humor offscreen then it will definitely help.

Deadpool's fourth wall breaks are pretty much always perfect or close to it. From what I've seen of She-Hulk's fourth wall breaks they are almost entirely pointless, generally telling us stuff that we've probably already figured out. That being said though that one fourth wall break you showed on here of her driving and then completely taking her hands off the wheel to lean over and talk to the audience is a hilarious gag.

See, the problem with She-Hulk’s fourth wall breaks is that while they’re used to convey intimacy, the writers THINK they’re using them for comedy, which is why they usually feel so stiff and out of place. Plus, most of the time, they’re giving us inner dialogue that we didn’t need.

The greatest fourth wall break I've ever watched was from Joel Haver's youtube channel, a skit titled "when a scene starts with a joke ending". The characters experience an existential crisis of fictionality that forces you, the audience, to question the meaning of your own existence. and it manages to do this while remaining hilarious.

Some honorable mentions would be Wesley at the end of "Wanted" when he asks the audience "WTF have YOU done lately" with a menacing tone. The other is in "DS and the Multiverse of Madness" when Wanda dreamwalks and for second or two looks directly at the camera. Hella unsettling.
