You da man - thanks for the video. About three weeks ago I put my juvenile discus in my 125 gallon tank and all was going well until last week when I noticed one of the larger juveniles started staying by itself. Not acting sick, just wanted to be left alone. This afternoon I discovered eggs on a piece of drift wood. I have bred a bazillion angels but never discus. I assume these eggs will become sushi but now I have the bug. I am a big believer in methylene blue until the eggs hatch and then they become wigglers - at least with angels. My question is if I see eggs on an isolated leaf or surface can I hatch out the eggs in a separate tank and introduce the parents when they become wigglers and/or free swimmers? Thanks discus bro' - Greetings from Rapid City, SD

I have heard of people doing that after the parents have raised fry before. Otherwise I’d assume they would eat the wiggles every time not knowing it’s their own fry. I would suggest trying a cage of some sort around the eggs if you are worried about the parents eating them before they can become wrigglers.

Do you rinse the salt off the brine shrimp before putting it into your tanks? If not, does it raise your ph levels? How do you deal with that?
@diybyericbarnes
@diybyericbarnes 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I always spray the brine shrimp on a coffee strainer and then rinse with tank water until color goes more clear

Im thinking on getting some juvenile discus to try to breed them in the future, but i have a question, what is the temperature that you keep your discus?? Do you keep all your discus with RO water or just when they are breeding?? Awesome video, thanks for the info.

Great questions ! I would keep juveniles in around 83 degrees, get at least a 55 gallon tank, with at least 6/8 juveniles. (Knowing you’ll probably lose 1/2 along the way). RO water won’t be necessary if they aren’t breeding. Just make sure they have consistency. Grab an over powered canister filter and you are set. Heavy feed them beef heart to grow them out.

first time my discus laid eggs they at them, they have just managed to hatch the second batch of eggs but I see the babies are hovering on the wood, not the parents they started breeding in the main take and I have just left them
@diybyericbarnes

They went to the wood thinking it was the parents. Discus fry are essentially blind and only see color differences. Dark/light. So they swim to the darkest color in the tank. You have to make the parents the darkest thing in the tank.
