I explained some of this in another comment, but I have a lot more to say about hybrids. It involves extra steps, but it's better to: 1) Get 2 of each hybrid (2 oranges, 2 purples) like shown in the video 2) Use them with each other to get a third one (orange + orange = new orange, purple + purple = new purple) 3) Use your new roses for hybrid red breeding. That's because any flowers that spawned from a pair can act like their parents, but their own color still counts as parents for new flowers. This is a very important rule, as it can give you many otherwise impossible combinations, like this one: White + Yellow = [WhYe] White Red + [WhYe] White = Red, White, Pink or Orange. Yes, you can get an orange rose from a red + white pair ([ReWh] Orange) this way. This isn't normally possible, but it happened because the white rose acted like a yellow rose, one of its parents, and red + yellow does give orange roses. Keep in mind this is just for 2 normal colors. With hybrids, the results might be even crazier, as they have their own separate (and varied) results. If you just jump in with the first hybrids you get for blue roses, you have this: [ReYe] Orange + [WhWh] Purple = [OrPu] (Red, Yellow, White, Purple, Orange or Pink) 6 possible results, and you just want 1 out of these 6 ([OrPu] Red), twice. But if you use hybrids that spawned from other hybrids, you have this: [OrOr] Orange + [PuPu] Purple = [OrPu] (Pink (yes, pink), Orange or Red) Now 1 out of 3 results is the rose you want. You'll notice this difference in-game VERY quickly. My sources are Nookipedia's article about flowers and GameFAQs's Hybrid Flower Guide.

2018, also, I get very lucky sometimes and put two flowers together that I don't even know that can breed another color and I normally end up with a different color on that day. One time I found a black rose and a Black Lily. I didn't even know what I did to make that happen but it was so cool. I thought they just grow randomly in your town. Thanks so much Crystal!

I did it. At long last. After a year of grinding and grinding, I finally have two blue roses that I can breed together to flood my town with. It took me seven months to get my first blue rose, and five to get my second. The reason why is because with my first set, I used two hybrid reds and one Jacob's Ladder with fertilizer, and it was so time consuming. But once I was ready to make my second set, I tried a different approach. I decided to use *three* hybrid reds and *two* Jacob's Ladders with fertilizer, and it actually sped up the process by saving two months! Man. That year of grinding was WORTH IT. I got my second blue rose about five days ago, and now I can finally decorate my town the way I've always wanted. Awesome.

If you speak to Isabell in the town hall about Ordinances, select the Beautiful Town Ordinance and you won't need to water your flowers anymore, they will never wilt

You aren't guaranteed to get red, sometimes they'll put out different colours of hybrids before you get red.

It depends on how you got those roses to begin with. It's likely your orange + purple pair is acting like a red + white pair because those are their "parents" (red spawned orange and white spawned purple). Try getting another orange from orange + orange and another purple from purple + purple, then use THESE to breed your hybrid reds.

There is no easy way to tell unfortunately. That is why for this I suggest breeding the hybrid far away from any other flowers so its less likely you get confused.

Careful! They are not hybrids and will not work! Sort them out and put them away as they will just complicate things. They are regular roses
