Typically, a machine shop will have a hot-tank that cleans things prior to machining. Might cost extra but it's worth it.

Hey Kirk, yea, you're right and I would've sprung for them to just go ahead and clean it too, but..I also would've taken it upon myself to at least try to clean it up a bit before handling it or putting it in my car!! Lol.

Close, it's an ej255 DOHC turbo but that is hard to tell from just the block.

I'm pretty sure the cyl bore is the same in both as well, and the 2.5 is just stroked with a different cam shaft and rod lengths. It's why so many US specs destruct under high revs compared to the rest
@occamsrazor1285 Жыл бұрын
@@danielescobar7618 EJ series uses the same cast block (and cylinder heads). Machining is done to make them specific, so you're partly correct, in a way. Bore on the EJ25 is 99.5mm with a stroke of 79mm. EJ20 has a bore of 92mm and a stroke of 75mm. "different cam shaft" That's not precisely correct. The cams really should be matched to the head and the ECU rather than the block. You could technically put an S20 head (2002-2004 DOHC non AVCS heads. The S really is the head nomenclature, the 20 is the displacement of the block it's intended for) on an 25 block (and it's not actually all that uncommon). A SOHC cam I believe would actually fit in a DOHC head, but the valve timing would be screwy. Could even get valve interference (it's possible for the valves to actually come in contact and for one to wedge itself in between the other and the valve seat). This is way adding new cams with a different duration and lift requires an ECU tune. The S20 head, being non AVCS, is, well, all mechanical, so it either works or doesn't (the ECU isn't as important, but a new fuel map would be recommended) "It's why so many US specs destruct under high revs compared to the rest" That's only partially true. Primarily what determines the rev limit is stroke, that parts true. But what also matters is valve springs and flywheel weight. The EJ25s run a heavier flywheel. Since the crankshafts are literally the same in all EJ displacements (aside from improvements like nitriding, of course), both the heavier flywheels intended for the longer connecting rods and the lighter flywheel intended for the shorter connecting rods will bolt to either engine. Interesting sidenote: the bolt patterns for the pressure plate are actually different. You have to match the flywheel it the transmission clutch fork type (push vs pull). I don't have any data to prove this, but I suspect you're also correct about the cams playing a part. I wouldn't be surprised if the lobe profiles were different for emissions purposes.

I am hoping you can take a constructive hint or two. The product is a brightener and not a cleaner. your surface was unprepared as it was flat filthy. also, you took 3 minutes and 45 seconds of my life to explain to me that the product was caustic yet you used no gloves or eye protection and you let the crap go straight to the ground along with the Grease. Do yourself a favor. Grab a dishpan or a plastic tub and clean your stuff in Diesel. Then dump the dirty Diesel in old oil containers and recycle the crud along with your motor oil at the local parts place. The planet will thank you. While you have your part down in that tub, glove up and grab a dremel and some cheapie wire brushes from HF or Amazon and get those nooks and crannies with the dremel. I promise you that at 13,000 RPM you will get it clean and you will never forget protection again as the crap flies everywhere BUT you get a spotless result. I have done the same process using purple power HOWEVER, all your grease winds up going into the drain hurting your planet instead of being safely reused. Be kind to mother nature and yourself: recycle your crap and glove up and use eye and ear protection. Do not be discouraged with your result. Do your learning and move on with your new knowledge as knowledge is power. Peace Out

@@SWSpeedCo Hey man we all learn the right way at some point. A parts cleaner is a great investment and whatever solvent you decide to use like MEK or B12 chem just keeps recirculating so you save money and won’t go into the groundwater. Almost anything aqueous is acidic unless it is absent of hydrogen protons. So even water is acidic, I’m sure you’ve heard of or know what p/h balance is. That being said you always want to work from the least caustic,environmentally friendly and non hazardous solution possible. Water is obviously going to be first and obviously can clean plenty, but in this case it’s not. You’d be surprised what you can clean with dawn dish soap and hot water. I mean they use it to clean wildlife affected by oil spills. The one I use a lot and keep stocked at my shop is distilled white vinegar. I clean aluminum heads to leather seats down to the soles of my converse chuck t’s. @OldSchoolCars had all great advice. Diesel is a great cleaner. You can even empty a quart of oil and add a quart of diesel to your crankcase and run for 30 minutes before an oil change as a flush. Albeit Kerosene is better. Diesel also acts as a lubricant. I also use keep an oil squirter with a mix of diesel and ATF to use as a penetrant, it puts PB blaster to shame. Also to his advice on PPO (safety gear). Anything that gets on your skin gets into your bloodstream and safety glasses should always be used. I even wear a respirator when I sweep my shop at the end of the day.

Dude! I'm calling you dude, because you seem to be about as bright as a stoner surf bum. You pointed out where the label stated; Danger! Severe burns! You're not wearing safety glasses, chemical gloves, any type of chemical resistant clothing, or a face shield. You are outdoors, but I'll bet you didn't even think about the fumes or a proper respirator. I sure hope that some kids don't copy your methods and wind up with severe injuries. Your workspace looks clean and organized. You appear to understand the necessity of quality tools, so why don't you consider proper, (inexpensive) Personal Protective Equipment? PPE! Find yourself a KZbin video about PPE and acids! I am actually pissed about the possibility of somebody doing what you do and wind up seriously harmed. Just a small amount in your eye, and you will lose it!
@SWSpeedCo4 жыл бұрын
I get what you're saying, If you watch some of my other videos you can see that I do use ppe. I use acids alot and I always have baking soda and water on hand. I was right next to a hose the whole time. I were a respirator when I grind or cut things as well as safety glasses. I'm not the safest person, but I'm also not the most unsafe person. I appreciate your concern of others doing what I'm doing. I understand the purpose of PPE and that you are supposed to wear it even when the risk is low. I usually wear it when I think the likely hood for danger is high. I don't go put on my hasmat suit to use bug spray even though that would be the safest way to use a poison. People shouldn't be taking KZbin videos for gospel anyway. For the most part it is for entertainment purposes.

Add to the fact of no PPE but also how little rinsing you do. Then all that is done over a concrete drive way which is hard on concrete and the fact all is rinsed into your soil with no thought to neutralize with a base. You say you use lots of acids. You need to speak to a physician about what acids do when absorbed. There are common acids absorbed through the skin that eventually ends up in your bones and makes them brittle. It is cumulative over time. That one reason why mag wheel cleaners have removed their acids from their contents. VERY DANGEROUS. Take it to a pro. I hate to think what the soil around your house is contaminated with.
