You just blew my mind. We put together our little 6x8 greenhouse a few months back and it is incredibly under-engineered in comparison to yours. We're trying to keep it above freezing in the PNW with some bubble wrap and a ceramic heat bulb, haha! Really, really impressive and so wonderful that you have all the knowledge to be able to add in all the extras.

I built 2 of these joined together, long wall facing due south., also on a deck base, with crushed stone heat store below. However, in an open area with no windbreaks. In 2 weeks, a wind storm took the walls and roof off of the steel base. The steel components failed, unfolded or bent, releasing the walls. The aluminum was fine. No extra panel clips, but did add 2 or 4 screws per panel into the cross supports. Not even a shingle out of place on any other building on the property. The wall column to base support is a weak point, and not easy to beef up. Must have a windbreak. Very few salvageable pieces. I did reinforce the end walls over the doors, leftover rect tubing from center of wall to tops of walls on either side, very weak spot there. I was able to splice the two units together with some strip flashing, and put collar ties in where the back walls would be, left all open inside for 24 feet. The structure was very sturdy even without the end walls or framing. Strip flashing in the 4” space between the end frames, screwed into the aluminum rafter and wall frames. Looked and worked great.

Wow, that's an interesting way to get a larger greenhouse for cheap! How do you like this model, I've been eyeing it myself as I don't have a lot to spend but I've heard some bad reviews that the Harbor Freight ones are cheap and you get what you pay for. At the same time, I've also heard that they can be made very sturdy with just a bit of DIYing. I'm the kinda person who's more than willing to do stuff myself to save a bit so I'm interested, how are these two holding up for you?
@Tiki712 жыл бұрын
I did too, but with the strength up additions, it's been a champ! I've had it go through lots of storms with no problem.

You would have been better to tie the two structures together by removing the end walls on each and adjoining them. otherwise, you'll have to step up and over the frames. You could have a door on each end but the cooling system would normally be installed on the end but a door would be in the way unless you convert it to a swing-out door instead of a sliding barn door. These panels don't last forever so when it comes time to replace them, your gluing the pannels will bite you in the butt making the job to change them a big one. when aluminum touches the soil or wet sand it will electrolyze, causing it to corrode quickly. coarser gravel would have been a better media foundation for your paving.
@Tiki713 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the armchair lecture. It work for me. Have you built two together before?
@TheTurboman23 жыл бұрын
I was just curious how you're going to walk through pass through doorway if there's a threshold to step over, push a wheelbarrow or two-wheel dolly through. I thought if you mounted the two greenhouses back-to-back structurally they should be sound enough but you would still have to step over that Foundation framework doorway.
@Tiki713 жыл бұрын
