I've leant to never even try to build a battery unless it's for a fire party😁 i'll stick to watching and admire the result. Thank you

man you make this look so easy! I have been thinking about converting a old Carver Surf skateboard i got to electric and this is making me think i can do it!

Haha yeah well, I've built quite a few of them now so it kind of feels like second nature. Once you do all the basic stuff a bunch of times, the main things to look out for are getting the weld settings right, understanding Bms wiring, and properly doing the discharge leads. Glad to hear it helped you understand the process!

Nice pack Ryan! What's the voltage on your fuse? Since it's a charge fuse, how do you determine/calculate the fuse size? Based on the flex when you lifted it. I think it's safe to say your board will never flex as much! Thanks for sharing and taking the time to show your hard work. Recording this stuff is so much work let alone the editing!

Never mind you already answered on your last battery pack build.

Thank you! I appreciate your support. I am using 12v fuses which is slightly questionable, while waiting for more hv ones to come. They seem to work fine though, but I've also never shorted a charge port.

Ugh, RED shrink on a BLACK NEG CABLE?? SACRELIG!! JK great vid man, love to see some good battery build vids still being made

Hahaha someone noticed. I am always running out of that size of heat shrink and really had no choice. Thank you! I put a lot of hard work into these builds.

Were did you get the 6p nikel strips? Nice battery!
@RBEMotion8 ай бұрын
Thanks! I got them from a friend in the industry, SKP. He sold me some for this project from his own stock. I don't think he sells them publicly though.

Where do you purchase the bms? Nice video :)

Bought it directly from a friend on taobao! It's a jbd smart bms

Thx for this great video! U didn't use a xt90 loop key?
@RBEMotion5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching! No, I didn't need to since my ESC utilizes sleep mode, turned on and off by a switch that's built into the ESC. I did solder an XT90s though as the discharge on the pack, so as to prevent a spark when plugging it in the first time, but some argue this isn't quite necessary.

1) Why are the fish paper circles necessary on only one end? 2) It didn't look like you scratched the nickel plates before putting on the solder pools. Did I miss it or have you found that's not necessary? 3) Why two wires (blue/purple) between nickel plates?
@RBEMotion9 ай бұрын
1) This is due to the construction of lithium ion battery cells. The outside of the can is the negative terminal (for most 2170 and 1865 cells), and the positive is the small round circle in the middle. The shoulder of the cell is what gets covered by the fishpaper, providing an extra layer of insulation between the negative and positive. 2) It kind of depends. It's possible I just didn't include it in the video. Technically it's not entirely necessary, but it can help locate the solder on the nickel a bit for people who are less experienced. 3) Two wires for the amount of current that needs to be transferred. Colors just for fun Hope this helps!

Hey! I know this is an older video but i'm curious why you chose to bend the nickel strips at 14:00 outwards instead of bending them over onto the fish paper of the P groups. Planning a battery with a similar layout. edit: you are a lot more knowledged than me in these batteries so more or less looking for the reasoning behind it and whether the other way that i mentioned would be alright
@RBEMotion14 күн бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, for those tabs, I bent them outwards because if I put them on top of the pack, they'd be sitting against my enclosure due to limited space. Since I had extra width, this was definitely the better option so it wouldn't be bouncing around on the solder joints, even with foam.

What do you use for the welding?
@RBEMotion3 ай бұрын
I use a KWeld with a lipo pack.
@lorenznoichl32522 ай бұрын
do you have any recommendations on spot welders? i bought a cheap one and it broke after 8 cells.
@RBEMotion2 ай бұрын
I purely use the Kweld! Great stuff. Can also recommend Malectrics as some of my friends have great results with that as well.

Why do you use two cables between each battery pack?
@RBEMotion10 ай бұрын
I use two in order to meet the current requirements of the esc I'm running. One 12awg would get quite hot.
