CCA must be low on those BMS boards? the larger 100amp boards share the positive between the battery and charger but use sperate neutral connections. Not a problem if your charging your battery from a wall plug in but if its connected to the neutral in a bike I can see this been a problem? I'm sure those little 40amp boards get round the neutral problem but they only provide 40 amps, no where near enough to crank a bike startermotor?

Good questions. The subject is complex, and those who do not know that subject shuold not deal with it. The lithium-ion battery I built holds up very nicely. In lithium-ion terms, my battery is still young. In the last two years the subject has developed nicely, and today special lithium-ion batteries for motorcycles are available in stores.

@@MyINNOVAMotorcycling thanks for the reply. I do like what you have done and the professionalism of your presentation. I am wanting to do this for a small boat outboard, the cranking amps should be low-ish! similar to a scooter or small motorbike. If your battery is holding up well on your bike with that 40amp bMS then I'm sure it could work for me. Thank you

@@paps69shed A few months ago I was back to the (original) Yuasa lead battery. A lithium-ion battery is nice, but if you are not a racing rider who pursues to save one Kg of weight it is not really a worthy replacement for the lead battery. The original lead battery lasts for years, the lithium ion battery hold about a year? Lithium ion has another major disadvantage, when the voltage drops (at the end of life), the protection circuit shuts off the battery at minimum voltage with almost no advance warning. In lead batteries you feel when a battery is going to run out, in lithium ion it is cut-off at once. In the case of the Honda Innova this is not a problem because it has the kick starter and all systems can work even without the battery. I was very enjoy the project, researching, and learn, but at the end of the day I found no practical benefits for lithium-ion battery.

@@MyINNOVAMotorcycling that's a very interesting insight. I'm think 12.6 but 11.1 is nominal so maybe maxed for 3s li-ion, I guess it wont take much to finish them off like that and are slightly low to begin with in cars/bike? Like you said in your comments lifepo4 is better but still a very good project that I'm sure many of us have learned from your example. Nice work! 👍

I really like the lithium or lifepo4 battery and your project, because the motorcycle battery voltage must be 12v to supply the existing electricity every components in the motorcycle,but what is the risk if you use a bms 3s and bms 4s module if the voltage on the motorcycle fills the normal 14.8v current and what if the problematic motorcycle regulator can reach 16v-18v.

Thank you for the compliments. You are of course absolutely right. Note that the charging voltage is 15.5V MAX, and the MAX voltage of four Liefpo4 batteries is as you mentioned 4x3.7 = 14.8V, so with the suitable BMS card there should not be a problem. Of course there is more data to check and take into account, and I did not mention them all. Incorrect connection may lead to damage. I share information, the decisions everyone makes are on their own responsibility. Ask and check in more information sources. This is a topic that needs to be studied in depth.

This is the situation in the Honda Innova, the lighting is fed in alternating current(AC). The Alternating-Current(AC) coming from the alternator to the regulator, and therefore limited to 15.5V AC at maximum. There is also a rectifier that give a Direct-Current(DC), which supplies DC voltage to other systems including to charging the battery. I am back to a standard lead battery, and I do not recommend lithium batteries.

If you ask it is a sign that you do not know the sabject and it is very worrying, especially if you are going to make so powerful battery that can cause so much damage. As a principle, the structure you suggest is not recommended. Passing the same current through a different number of batteries creates differences in load and temperature. The parallel structure with fewer batteries will heat up faster. And there are other differences. So is what you are offering possible? Yes. Is it recommended? Definately NOT!!! There are so many things to know about lithium-ion battery production, if you don't have the knowledge, please don't mess with it. Please leave the pack battery building to professionals.

I understand by your question that you know the subject better than me. Yet, i woud try to answer you like this: A BMS card is a Board Management System. The electronic board has over voltage protection, and over charging protection. You must to look at the specification of your card and there you will find all the data. Today I would build a structure configuration of 4S with Lifepo4 batteries. The S4 configuration have more high quality BMS, and the batteries Lifepo4 are more stable and less dangerous. A typical 12-volt lead-acid battery full charge is approximately 14.5.-15.5 VDC that is the Charging voltage After charging is finished, after a hour or more the battery drops to about 12.8 volts lifepo4 singl cell max volt is 3.7 3.7x4=14.8 Therefore, with a BMS card that corresponding to this data(S4), there should be no problem. If it's good? depends to whom? It will reducing weight for sure. I do not know how much the load on the coils increases, and how much they can hold, I know that the motorcycle engine can working even without a battery at all (Only on the generator). kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmqzlHeMec91gZo On the racetrack you also do not need the lighting system ... @MyINNOVAMotorcycling
@MyINNOVAMotorcycling 2 жыл бұрын
@@motto666 Yes, LiFePo4 are safer and last much longer, but today a quality cell of this type is still very expensive. The control over them must be according to a more accurate voltage drop. If you have an accurate voltmeter in the instrument panel and you are monitoring the situation then you may not be surprised. Lead battery does not run out suddenly. Perhaps in the near future a manufacturer who installs LiFePo4 battery will also arrange a control light that will give a sufficiently long warning to replace the battery On the other hand, if you buy a high-quality LiFePo4 battery from a quality manufacturer that promises, lets say, 8 years, you can replace it after 7 years, then there are no surprises. As of today, they continue to produce a lead battery, and we are also starting to see a LiFePo4 battery. I think it's worth to wait ... when the motorcycle is full electric then it's clear that no special battery is needed for starting. The technologies in my opinion have not ready yet and we not knowing what will be in the future. (Electric motorcycle apart from the generously available torque, it has only drawbacks)

I would love to share, whether it helps or not I don't know, the fun on KZbin is sharing, both for entertainment and information, and everyone takes what suits them. My attempt with a lithium-ion battery failed, the project was interesting and challenging, I was happy to do it, and in the end I returned to the Yuasa battery. Today, lithium batteries are available for purchase on all size, but in my opinion, apart from the difference in weight, lithium battery has no advantage. Regarding the S calculation of the batteries, calculate according to the voltage of a single charged battery, and multiply by the amount of batteries. Let's say: 4.1V for lithium ion, so you need to connect three batteries at S to get 12. Regarding the calculation of P of the battery, let's say: 10Ah for a single battery, then you need to connect 10 batteries at P to get 100Ah. SO YES 3S10P I wouldn't use lithium-ion again, I'm not up to date, last time I checked the safer battery was the LiFePO4 type at 3.6 volts Max per unit? 4S for 14.4V/ ~14.4 - ~15V that is the voltage you see on the battery terminals when the engine is running, because it is the charging voltage produced by the alternator (plus or minus). You need to check what is available on the market.

PS check if the charging system is working good: At idle rpm there should be a voltage of 13.9 volts plus or minus on the battery terminals. A Yuasa battery can last for years, but if the charging circuit is not functioning it will destroy it. It is a shame to install a new battery with the charging circuit not functioning, because it will also destroy the new battery too.

@@DUCATIstreetfighterINTurkey The test regarding to the charging system also includes a test at idle rpm, how many DC volts do you measure on the battery terminals at idle rpm? 14.2VDC at 5000 rpm is OK. The electronic card (BMS)that controls the charging of the battery lowers the voltage to the maximum allowed area (4.2V x 3 = 12.6V). With lithium ion batteries there is no need for 4S connection, only 3S. I recommend LiFePO4, they are much safer, and with them I know that a 4S connection is made.
